I don’t know if you’re wrong . I know a lot of people that get prescribed it that don’t have type 2 diabetes. I have also heard instances that insurance didn’t cover the medication , so they had to go out of pocket.
This. That was my initial experience with just looking into it with my doctor and insurance . Of all these drugs only one (ozem) was possibly covered and I say possibly because you actually had to have an A1C high enough to be diabetic to get it covered (at crazy high price because it was Medicare and not private).
That was a shake my head moment when I thought..so wait. The preventative to keep you from becoming one is there but in this case you need to get the disease before you can get the preventative?

The Biden administration, in its last full weekday in office, announced the next 15 drugs up for Medicare price negotiation. Blockbuster diabetes drug Ozempic is on the list.

That means the federal government and the pharmaceuticals industry are about to go head-to-head once again. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services negotiated prices for a first batch of drugs last year — something it could only do because of the Inflation Reduction Act, which passed in 2022. Those new prices go into effect in January 2026.

yes, I was going to mention that too. Unfortunately those prices for the new 15 wouldn't go into effect until 2027. But here's yet another thing. Starting a few weeks ago the Cap on Medicare Part D (including Advantage plans) drug expenses for covered drug is now $2,000!

  • Your yearly Part D
    Out-of-pocket costs
Health or prescription drug costs that you must pay on your own because they aren’t covered by Medicare or other insurance.
will be capped at $2,000 in 2025. You’ll also have the option to pay out-of-pocket costs in monthly amounts over the plan year, instead of when they happen.

I need to hear this from my Insurance prover first but if true than that takes the annual cost of something like Ozempic down from $7,872 to $2,000. (and the few other items I get would be free then). Game changer.

I fell asleep listening to one youtube vid and woke-up listening to a podcast (Diary of a CEO) about Insulin. Researcher Dr Benjamin Bikman had a lot to say about Ozempic, People lose a lot (20-40%) of lean mass that can be hard to get back (a woman over 60 will be stuck because fat can come back but not bone). Young people already lean but using Ozempic to polish some lines can get hit hard. Some girls in 20s getting diagnosed with osteoporosis.

Ozempic et al are truly amazing medications. It will turn a fat/lazy person into a thin/lazy person. The lazy part is all on them. You build lean muscle by not being lazy. Pretty simple.

In vid there is a 30 yr old singer (active) crying because she just got diagnosed with osteoporosis and osteopenia/osteopenia. I see she also had the popular "blister lip" injection that will move around in tissue as time goes on. If people do keto for a few weeks the hunger pangs get so low you can end-up having to remind yourself to eat

One commenter said something under video that I think is true said:

"I studied nutrition in college 25 years ago. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, was talking about this information back then. It was all about using food to manage disease, not using food to reverse disease. We are living in amazing times."

Her osteo is likely due to her long-time eating disorder. This happens quite often.

Btw..my provider confirmed the above. . And it doesn't matter how many scripts your doctor writes if you're on Medicare. They won't t cover it UNLESS you are an actual diabetic. Not even for pre diabetic to keep you from becoming one.. SMH.

Private insurance is completely different and as usual private way ahead of public government. Shocking.

Tangent from this topic (didn't want to start a new thread), but I thought @Knight Shift and others would appreciate this video:

I've been railing on here about how evil Monsanto's is in the quest for the almighty dollar for a decade now. Corrupt politicians gave control of our food source to a company who got their start making Agent Orange. The more you read about them the more fvcked up the rabbit hole becomes.

US is the land of over prescribing useless drugs with bad side effects because our medical system is addicted to drug$. But the pharma bros will poo poo such data in the quest for more $$$$.

Paywalled, but here is a snippet:

"The difference, he believes, is Americans’ increasing use of medications — like benzodiazepines, opioids, antidepressants and gabapentin — that act on the central nervous system.

“The drugs that increase falls’ mortality are those that make you drowsy or dizzy,” he said.

Problematic drugs are numerous enough to have acquired an acronym: FRIDs, or “fall risk increasing drugs,” a category that also includes various cardiac medications and early antihistamines like Benadryl."

Saw a doc vid somewhere some time ago about a farmer who DID NOT BUY and of Monsanto's seed product being sued because his neighbors did.. and some of their corn seeds ended up in his fields and, thus, in his seed that he yielded from his fields. Yeah.. it could be that a farmer could steal seed from Monsanto-using farms and plant it.. and with Monsanto's evil PAY US to plant seed that you grew using our base seed products plan.. where they want to be paid FOREVER for developing said seed.. which also creates monoculture dangers... these evil bastards use lawyers to go after honest farmers... lean on them with all their resoruces.. join the Monsanto customer base or die.

Monsanto's tag line in their commercials used to be "Without chemicals, life itself would be impossible". It should be "Without predatory business practices, our existence as a profitable corporation would be impossible."

We agree 100%, if I was not clear. I may give the same thing a shot if I cannot succeed with diet and exercise to get to what I consider a healthy weight. 1200-1500 calories per day can be torture, especially for someone who is still working, has a stressful job and other things in life pulling at them that may cause them to feel hungry and the need to "eat more."
By BMI standards, I "should" be 30-35 lbs lighter. I had a DEXA scan done, and (not bragging), the tech pointed out that I have a high amount of lean (muscle) mass, and reasonably, I could stand to lose at most another 10-13 lbs. But like you, that has proven to be a challenge, even eating a strict diet of high protein, low carbs and low fat. Carbs (bad ones) are particularly problematic, and too much saturated fat is not healthy either.

This segment with Peter Attia, MD and David Allison, PhD is quite interesting and on point. At one point in the discussion, Dr. Attia presses Dr. Allison about losing 10 lbs and the ethical considerations of doing so. This is cued up to the discussion of GLP-1 agonists and lasts about 25-30 minutes. It's a good listen.

The comments below the video are quite harsh, and there are a number of people screaming to "just eat healthy food and exercise." There are a lot of those people out there, and I am one of them, but we'll see how that goes.

The government, perhaps starting with middle and high school health classes could do a much better job of promoting education and a healthier food environment. Remove junk food from cafeterias and school vending machines. Serve healthier food.

Maybe don't follow Attia's advice. He may be cooked.
