anyone on here have experience with a parking ticket issued at a nj transit parking lot?

I parked at the willow brook park and ride this morning. Went to pay for a spot and the machine said spot wasn't available. Walked back to my car and went to a new spot. Same message. I missed the first bus due to moving car so I wasn't walking back to try again.

Back to my car and had a ticket for failing to pay. Was issued by standard parking. Are these like RU parking tickets where they are essentially an agency you can ignore and not pay? I know it's peanuts but still I tried to lay twice and their machines didn't work.

Who is the issuing authority? In my town, I plugged in the wrong spot in the machine (fat fingered) and received a $51 ticket from the town. Because i had my receipt for the fat finger mistake they were nice to me and dismissed it.

If it is from Wayne or a neighboring town then you should pay it or it can cause issues later on. If it is from a 3rd party (ie. Central parking) then it is up to you but by failing to pay and them having your license plate they can boot your car at some point if you are delinquent. You can fight it and say the machine was not working and they may dismiss for the cost of 1 day's parking. If the ticket is under $20 you can also just pay it and not miss work for a court date.

Step 1: call the number on the back, be nice, say thank you many times, and explain to the admin what happened.
Be nice? Do you think that's more effective than saying "Look, you little $@#%, your $@&!£%* machine didn't work. Now forgive this ticket or your next job will be serving weirdos at Taco Bell."

Your were probably parking in a monthly prepaid spot. You need to look at the signs as you enter to find the daily section.

It was a daily spot. I thought I made that mistake but then doubled back and checked the sign and they even noted on the ticket it was daily.

Called them (it is Standard Parking instead of Wayne) and was told I can mail the money in cash (as opposed to check)...doesn't seem shady at all.

I once was in a similar situation. Arrived at the Edison TS “new” lot on the west side of the tracks to find no daily spots available. But there were tons monthly permit spots open. So I parked in one. Tried to pay the $4 but the machine wouldn’t let me. So predictably I get a ticket. Sent them a letter where I basically asked them what do they expect NJ Transit customers to do in such a situation --- leave ? Is that what they want their customers to do? I included a check for $4. Never heard back.

Waiting for RutgersAl to weigh in. He's probably had more ticket experience than any 3 or 4 posters combined.
