OT: New Car and tires

I purchased a CR-V July of 2019 (brand new). It’s the vehicle I drive to work everyday. (41,000 miles) After getting my oil changed and rotating the tires I immediately noticed a humming noise and just awful ride. Took the car back to the place that rotated my tires and they pointed out that my rear tires (that were put on the front) are warped and need to be replaced. I called the dealership and explained what was going on and was informed that new car purchases do not cover tire warranty unless you purchase their dealer specific tire warranty. So basically if you by a new car once you drive off the lot they no longer cover the tires (unless tire warranty is purchased.)

Was anyone else aware of this? My tires are Hankook Kinergy GT

Common problem. New car warranties do not cover wear items like battery, windshield wipers, brake pads, or tires.

Even if you had purchased the supplemental "tire warranty", it would be pro-rated and you wouldn't get much with 40k+ miles.

If you have 41,000 on tires, then just buy some more and get the warranty on them.

3 years and 41,000 miles is not unreasonable. The dealer/factory would certainly consider this normal wear.

2 years & 41k miles isn't ideal for a tire but certainly not unheard of. I've never heard of a regular car warranty covering tires.

As everybody stated, normal wear & tear on tires is not included in new car warranties. You're lucky that you got 41K out of a factory tire, especially with the roads in this country.

Swap the tires back to where they were

Keep rolling until you see wires on the front tires**

Find a place that does road force balancing. Have them balance your tires. Your current place may have knocked your tires out of balance. Plus I've never heard of a warped rim that rode smooth on one axle then bad on the other. They usually ride bad wherever they are.

It's not uncommon for a new new vehicle's suspension to settle in the first 15,000 miles. I would have your alignment checked.

Tire warranties are a joke. Prorated value, require a ridiculous amount of documentation to actually file a claim and have it accepted (proof of purchase, proof of install by a licensed technician, proof of no vehicle defects like poor alignment that caused the wear, proof of no aftermarket vehicle modification, etc.).

Even worse, they require you to replace the tires with the exact same make / model tire as you had before even with all the other restrictions. So basically if you have a ****** model or poorly manufactured tire, you’re stuck buying 4 more of the same ****** tires just to save like $100-$200.

My uncle had Hankook tires on his truck and he had nothing but bad things to say

It sounds like the tire may have cupped at its original location and moving it to another is causing it to track differently enough to cause the sound. Most likely a 4-wheel alignment will prevent this from happening again. I realize that doesn't help with your warranty issue though.

What does a 'warped' tire mean? Like one person said, if the tread is still good, get them balanced and see if that resolves the issue. I would assume that typically a rotate and balance is normally done together. I assume that this place also sells tires...

A lot of tires that are sold to manufacturers are the cheapest tires they can buy. Tread wear is usually 36000 to 48000 miles. If your putting that many miles on them, find some higher treadwear tires.

For example, General Grabber HTS has a 660 treadwear which is 6 years or 60k miles. Had some on a jeep and got 65k miles out of them and still had tread when I sold it.

You will pay around $150.00 a tire for tires with the higher treadwear.

The windshield wipers on our Subaru Outback with 44000mi are not cleaning as well as they did when new. Should I call the dealer and ask them to cover a new set under warranty, or should I realize they are a consumable, 44000mi is a long time, and consumables are meant to be replaced?
