New Brunswick bans smoking in public parks with December 18, 2024 ordinance. Let's see how they keep up with policing on this one. Most of these parks are in poor neighborhoods. They think they will collect fines of that magnitude?

"Smoking is also prohibited at any scheduled public event, such as farmers markets, parades, concerts and festivals.

Smokers will receive a fine of $250-$500 for the first offense, $500-$1,000 for the second and each subsequent offense. The smoking regulations will be enforced by police."

These types of bans do the exact opposite of serving and protecting. Just leads to selective enforcement and more negative encounters between public-police. There’s enough broken windows in NB to patch up, don’t think they need to focus on smoking
