Planning a trip for spring. Havent been there in 30 years. Wifes never been. Suggestions on where to stay?

Stay close to where you plan to spend most of your time. People naturally think of the strip, but there are some very nice spots that are easier on the wallet such as Red Rock.
Go to YouTube and watch some videos on Vegas accommodations. They’re pretty good.
This is the correct answer. And I say that as someone who used to go a lot and loved it. Place really went to **** over the last several years. Finally stopped going after realizing there were MUCH better places to travel
Too many variables to say. Depends on budget first, then what you plan on doing while you are there. If you plan to mostly walk the strip and/or bar hop and pass put drunk every night, then I would stay mid-strip and not go crazy on an expensive casino. Save that money for booze. If you plan on spending most of your time in the casino sports book watching sports, pick the best casino/sports book you can afford.
Much has changed in 30 years. Get over that the minute you book. Drinks are expensive if they aren't comped and it's not like the old days where they hand you a free beer when you walk into the casino. Buffets are over priced and not that great. I would skip. Huge difference between weekends and weekdays. Everywhere has resort fees. Make sure to factor that in when booking.
Buy booze at Walgreens or CVS and stock your hotel room for pre-gaming before going out for the night.
Last time I went I went with our dinner club for a Jimmy Buffet concert. I'm not a huge Buffet fan, but we had great seats and the concert was fantastic. We ate some great food but the limits were ridiculous at the Blackjack tables and that's about the only game I play when I'm there. IF you could find a $20 limit at a Blackjack table, you could never get a chair. I could afford to bet more than that but I don't enjoy it then. We stayed at a hotel next to the Aria I think it was and it was fine. Expensive but fine. One of our dinner club's son-in-laws just bought a bunch of property on Fremont street downtown. It will be interesting to see what he does with that. I think their vision is to turn Fremont street in to an entertainment venue with a Nashville base and vibe.
Let me rephrase this. Wife wants to go, so staying home is not an option if I want to make an ice fishing trip with the boys. Wont be a hangover type weekend. Couple of shows, light gambling and touristy crap and one show over 3 days. Wont be out past 10. So if I have to go, where is a safe and clean place to stay , and where should I avoid at all costs.
Stay the hell away from the Stratosphere and Circus Circus. I don’t know why anybody would stay there.

IF you want safe, the strip casinos are probably all okay. I've never stayed downtown but the tables had more reasonable bet limits when we went down there one night. It's probably been 8 years ago though. Your wife is going to want to stay on the strip. My wife likes to go for the shows and shopping. The Ceasar's forum shops are nice but you can buy the same stuff in Omaha for a lot less money. Bellagio I think still is pretty nice if they haven't imploded it by now. We stayed at Paris probably a dozen years ago. It was a little more budget friendly for food with several deli type places with good food.
I thought they were going to implode Circus Circus but it appears it's still standing.
Word to the wise, most fatalities on the strip are people getting run over by cars. You've got a lot of people walking drunk and driving drunk or on drugs. A buddy of mine who lived out there for 30 years said they would get at least one pedestrian a day on the strip. He couldn't believe anybody would voluntarily come to Vegas on vacation.

So, you want to give her a good Vegas experience (or whatever semblance there is remaining of that) so she's happy? Or do you want to show her how ****** it really is so she doesn't insist on something like this ever again?
Like most everything, you generally get what you pay for with regard to where to stay. The more expensive it is, the safer and cleaner it will be. The cheaper it is, the dirtier and shittier it will be.
I've never felt unsafe there, but it ALL felt dirty to me the last few times I went. The other guests were mostly trash and everything felt dated and tired. And that was at the Wynn. But for what you're describing, I'd stay on the strip
Figure out the shows and stay on that end if they are on the same end. I think downtown is trashy. My wife loves grabbing drinks and walking through the Venetian. Never had an issue on the strip no matter what time or how drunk. Step outside the downtown tourist areas and it gets sketchy fast.
Whatever you do, don't stay at the Pink Flamingo. That place is a joke. Not fun when you run out of hot water when your wife has shampoo in her hair. The screams of horror haunt my memory.
Been to Vegas 7 times it was the worst experience ever. Don't give them a dime. Matter of fact, don't even pass through that place.
They're usually hanging out with fat slob 65 year old men...... Turns out money can buy you happiness if only for an evening.
If you don't care about money, I'd stay at the Bellagio. Perfect location, lots to do there and right around there. Is very crowded though. Aria is a little more chill and is very nice as well, but it involves more walking to get to other stuff.
If you want to go a little cheaper, you could stay at MGM Grand. Still a great location. Good live music at the bar there if you're into that. Fun atmosphere.
Cheaper than that, you could stay at Paris, Horseshoe, or Planet Hollywood. All are fine, but nothing great. Still great locations though.
If you haven't been in 30 years, you're going to want to stay on the strip. That's the whole point. You could take a trip downtown and check out Circa's sportsbook though. Great place to watch games.

We got married in Vegas 26 years ago, love to go there.....Stay at the Wynn or Venetian if you have the cash, or more budget friendly Caesars. They are centrally located in the strip. See some shows, walk some of the hotels, go to Caesars mall to shop. Carmines is a good italian place in the basement of Caesars we like to go to. Peppermill is an excellent breakfast place, has the Vegas feel. The hotels are HUGE, so don't think you'll be able to walk more than a couple at a time, it's comparable to walking from one shopping mall to another....
Bellagio and Caesars are good choices for the location and pretty classy places all things considered
Where you ice fishing? We’re trying Ballsrds Resort this January on Lake of the Woods. They seem to pull some big eyes and jumbo perch out of there and in quantity. Always looking for new spots though.
We went last year and had a blast. We stayed on the corner of Ceasers...it was effin awesome. Walked to the observation wheel, absolutely worth doing...we did not do the zip lines you will see when you are on it, but will next time we go...now we were only there 2 nites as it was just a stop over before we drove to the north rim of the grand canyon...but it was a riot. Next time we will try to watch a battle bot show...there were none going on during our stay unfortunately.
We are not gamblers but I laid ten bucks on red, and won, and celebeated like it was a big deal..much to the chagrin of the guy next ro me who last hundreds on the same spin..haha. I quot right there...my wife put 10 bucks in the slots and also won...she also stopped right there.
Mob museum was worth doing near old Fremont Street (orig vegas strip)..we would spend more time there when we go back.

I'd vote for the Venetian as well. All the rooms are suites with lots of space.
I am staying at the Vdara next week, because I needed something with two bedrooms. They have some privately owned suites that you can find on VRBO too. No casino, but they are connected to the Bellagio if that's important to you.

I am staying at my brother's house in nearby Henderson. Going for a few days around Super Bowl weekend. Doubt if I even make it to the Strip. While my sister-in-law and wife shop, I am going to drive 3 hours each way to ski at Brian Head Ski Area in Utah. Spring is a really good time to go to Vegas. Summer is too hot.
If you play the myvegas app games (android is super easy to get loyalty points), you can easily get at least a night free at one of the MGM properties. Every so often they'll run 2 nights free just for using loyalty points and with android, some of the games you don't even need to 'play' to earn the points. Actually, redeemed a one-night free room (do have to pay the evil resort fee sadly) for next week with family visiting. If you play out of Clark County, you can get like $75 in slot freeplay pretty easily too with like a month of consistent 'app play'. Since I live in Vegas, I'm not eligible for that promotion.
Went in October, barely got out alive. The foliage was so beautiful I nearly crashed the truck.

We had a cabin in MN booked for Sept....after we booked it I really started looking at **** to do up there...and since we don't fish I asked my wife WTF are we going to do for a week? There was literally nothing else to do where we would have been. We cancelled it and did get our money back.
Well yeah. If you don't like fishing or lake activities then MN isn't for you. Aren't you biking guy? I see cool bike paths around Lake Vermilion.
Huge cyclist...but where we were gonna be wasnt exactly a mecca for it. Plus it was a vacay with the wife, who likes biking, but isn't consumed with it like I am.
Not sure. Coworker from central MN invited the whole department up. He has an amazing set up. Accommodations in the fish house will apparently be better than Vegas based on this thread
Stay on the strip and just plan to spend a lot of money. Don't bother otherwise. Budgeting and Vegas don't go together well.
Imma be straight up honest bout that....my wife wanted to do it because she thought it sounded like a great place to read. I said..."I don't read..." So we compromised, and we cancelled the cabin.
The trees in my area were spectacular this fall too. I think the combination of the drought and mild nights intensified the color and how long the leaves held on. We finally had a freeze hard enough to kill my flowers on my deck.
