Why do people typically say “ happy 4th of July” rather than calling it Independence Day? We don't say “Merry December 25th” or “Happy February 14th”.

Every country has July 4th. We have Independence Day. Its what sets us apart.

Yeah Im being picky. I know. Cant wait for football to get here.

Everyone also has a Cinco de Mayo.

On a related note, who around here celebrates "Cinco de Cuatro"? :)

If you're an American you say, "Happy 4th of July!" Outside of the calendar (and this thread), absolutely no one says, "Independence Day". Every American knows that the 4th of July is our Independence Day. Are you an American? o_O

From a pragmatic viewpoint, it's the worst holiday of the year for me.

All the fireworks leading up to and after, just create a bad situation with the dogs constantly being spooked and wanting to bolt, at all hours of the day and trying to keep them re-assured that everything is ok.

Hate fireworks.

I'm with you. Today's holiday doesn't stop having to get up early for work tomorrow for me.

In Boston, heard the 243rd reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Old State House, saw the laying of wreaths at Hancock, Adams and Revere’s graves. Waiting for fireworks after having seafood in the cradle of the Revolution! What a great country! Happy Fourthdependence Day!

I was in Boston on the Fourth during the Bicentennial. I remember going to Revere's home. Went to Lexington and Concord as well. America rocks!

Sure but you said "If you're an American you say, "Happy 4th of July!"" I don't. Am I not an American?

Have you submitted your blood test to the lab for processing? It may take 4-6 weeks to get back the results. Pack your bags just in case.

I thought it was a bad movie! Anything with Jeff Goldblum is not a good watch. ;)
