For a second I thought something blew up. I think it was the loudest thunder ive heard aside from when I was younger and my house got struck. Scared the hell outta us….dishes in cabinets rattled.

I also live in Sayreville and had the same experience. It shook my house where I thought
DuPont blew up. I came very close to hunkering down in the basement.
Just incredible.

I remember Hercules explosions growing up, if it was still around I would have thought it was from there.

I grew up by Minisink Rd, that was in early 1970's, and it was lit up like daytime, the cool night got much warmer. Had front row seats for that one.

I saw the flash of lightning in Ridgewood. Couldn't believe what I saw -- I thought at first a transformer blew but when the lights didn't go out, knew it had to be lightning.

Same here in East Brunswick, don't think I've ever felt anything quite like it. Have felt sudden loud cracks of thunder from nearby lightning strikes as well as big boomers before - but this, I saw the lightning flash (which was a bit unexpected itself) and a second later there was a loud boom of thunder that started to trail off but then all of a sudden, BOOM! Have had ground shaking thunder before, but never like that.

Having grown up in Highland Park I don't have any Hercules Explosion stories - but do remember the bright light and heat of the Durham Woods Pipeline explosion in 94...
