Needing a new pair of hiking shoes(not boots). Prefer low or medium top. Suggestions?

Hoka One One makes some great ones. I bought a pair of Toa’s and love them. I have to wear them for work. They’re awesome.

I've had the same pair for years made by Vasque, and they are high quality shoes and are durable (my opinion).

Vasque makes all kinds of hiking boots and shoes. Their prices are between $100 and $200.

You can find them online.

I know they're not very exotic but I've bought Merrells for many years. They are comfortable, tough and hard to wear out...I've never had a bad pair.

The simplest solution is just go to a store and try on the different brands yourself. Feet are like boobs. They’re all different sizes and need different support. Unfortunately they aren’t as pleasant to look at.

^^^ Altras. However, the trade off is that they are not as durable as some other options.

My favorite right now are Oboz. I had some Merrill Moab waterproof hiking shoes, and found their waterproof lining doesn’t breathe as well as Gore-Tex. So every time I wore them, even around the house, my feet got hot. I also found that they crowded my toes.

The Oboz brand apparently has a wider toe box by design and I got a ventilated (non waterproof) shoe this time and couldn’t be happier. Have worn them hiking and backpacking and found them to be very comfortable during both.

Altra Lone Peaks. I've been wearing them for about 5 years. I'll never wear another running shoe.

I wear Merrill Moab during the warm months doing landscaping. They last about a year. They are that expensive and are waterproof/comfortable. I wear Wolverine boots when it’s cold. Wrong thread but oh well

I've been wearing Merrell for 20 years. The moab and chameleons have never let me down. If I had to get a different brand, I would probably go Saloman.

They got bought out by the company that owns North Face. Since then, their quality has gone down. I still buy them though.

Not sure what all has been said in this thread and I'm not a hiker but I'd say it's similar to running. If you're going to run then you should go to a running store and let them fit you for the proper running shoe. If you're going to hike then you should go to a store that can fit you with the proper hiking shoe. If hiking has not gotten as advanced in fitting as running has then forget everything written above and just get what feels good to you.

Go to a store like REI and try them on their incline for boots. If you’re hiking it is very important to have shoes/boots that fit correctly.
If you don’t want to pay full price then try to find them online from another vendor.
I really like Solomon, Vasque and La Sportiva.

Look here for deals.

If you are anywhere near an REI go there and try on as many pair as you can. Never buy hiking shoes or boots online unless you have tried them on. Also REI has a 1 year 100% sanctification guarantee return policy that is hard to beat. I purchased a pair of boot there that were a little tight in the toe box after a few miles. I used them on a few weekend backpacking trips and I knew I needed a wider size. REI exchanged them for a larger size and were happy to help me fix the problem. It is hard to find a retailer with that kind of customer service.

My 2 cents on brands I have had good experiences with Vasque and Asolo.
