Clearly a valid reply to a 53,000 person study.I had my flu shot and I haven't gotten ill all winter and I've been around a TON of coughing, sneezing, farting kids. One of my fellow band members is a school secretary and she was sick as hell for a month. I'll bet she lost 25 lbs that she didn't need to lose. She's an antivaxxer so of course she didn't go to the doctor. She really should have seen a pulmonologist and get on some inhaled steroids. Not sure if she had syncytial virus or what. Vaccinating with the wrong strain of Flu virus is almost worse than not getting vaccinated in my experience. In horses, the flu vaccine isn't really changed year to year and horses that are vaccinated but still get influenza usually get sicker than unvaccinated horses. It appears that their immune system doesn't recognize the variant strain as being a virulent threat.
I know. It's a new study. This topic has never been discussed before
Anecdotal evidence is so much fun. I should write infomercials.Clearly a valid reply to a 53,000 person study.
Wait until you’re a seasoned citizen.I don’t believe I have ever had a flu shot. Somehow, I don’t get the flu very often, either. Stunner.
There is nothing wrong when a person does what they feel is best for them. I have had one flue shot many moons ago when my employer bought them in to the office. I thought why not. And that year I got the sickest I ever was. Lost quite a bit of weight and a few days in the hospital and missed quite a bit of work. Haven’t had the shot since and have not had the flu since that year. I’m not an antivax. But that was enough proof for me.Anecdotal evidence is so much fun. I should write infomercials.![]()
I bet you know a guy who does...Anecdotal evidence is so much fun. I should write infomercials.![]()

It’s anecdotal but the last three times I’ve taken a flu shot, I’ve gotten sick each winter. Three shots over a fifteen year period. The other 12 years never as sick as those three, missing work and in bed type sick. People are different. Even those seasoned folks. Or maybe my seasoning is just a bad batch?Wait until you’re a seasoned citizen.
Nevermind the data. Dingles' anecdotal experiences Trump all.I had my flu shot and I haven't gotten ill all winter and I've been around a TON of coughing, sneezing, farting kids. Well. I do have a doctorate. I have taken post graduate level virology, epidemiology, microbiology, physiology, etc..... I am in fact a licensed and accredited public health official. I know how to read and interpret studies. I've done it in my professional career for over 40 years. That said, science isn't perfect and the knowledge is constantly changing. I always I've always told people in my career that I try not to argue with success even if I don't agree with their treatment regimens. I believe flu vaccines are kind of a roll of the dice as to whether or not you get the right strain at the right time. It's never been a 100% deal an the influenza virus can mutate fairly quickly similarly to the Corona viruses.Nevermind the data. Dingles' anecdotal experiences Trump all.
I haven't had influenza for at least 5 years that I know of but I've gotten a flu shot every year for the last decade because my wife makes me.... She's a recently retired MD who cared for thousands of elderly people who got flu and it tipped them over the edge. She took care of thousands of COVID patients as well. She's insistent that high risk patients who were current with their COVID jab often tested positive, some got sick, but they didn't die if they were vaccinated. As far as she knows she never tested positive for COVID. I don't think she's ever been ill with influenza that I can remember but she was exposed to everything under the sun at least 6 days per week for the past 45 years. Natural immunity works but she still gets the jabs....It’s anecdotal but the last three times I’ve taken a flu shot, I’ve gotten sick each winter. Three shots over a fifteen year period. That's all wonderful, but as far as I can tell you have been obstinately uninterested in seriously considering any of the data that has been provided on these threads. I don't recall you trying to refute it other than sharing your anecdotal evidence and pro-vax narratives or refusing to finish reading the data due to something that you found disqualifying about the research or researcher. I know I have shared my personal experiences, too, but I have also shared data that questions those narratives.Well. I do have a doctorate. Reasonable and those experiences should shape your actions. That’s another reason why people see the world differently, it is experienced differently.I haven't had influenza for at least 5 years that I know of but I've gotten a flu shot every year for the last decade because my wife makes me.... My last flu shot was 45ish years ago. Never had the flu.Our own seasoned and highly rated doctor in Omaha recommends my family and I NOT get the flu shot. He says he’s never seen evidence of any benefit. I’ve never had one and I know I get sick less often than my friends that get them and complain constantly of being sick.

I might have missed it but did you read where someone concluded that? It's a pre-print study meaning it hasn't gone through peer review. That said, assuming peer review doesn't uncover any methodological flaws, the study appears to suggest that for the particular population under study, the 2024 flu vaccine didn't appear to impact the incidence of flu occurrence in the vaccinated versus unvaccinated group.
Importantly, though, the paper doesn't address whether illness severity or hospitalization rates were impacted. The authors note that limitation in the study. If you read it, which I doubt.
The harder part is figuring out why they observed those results. It could be as simple as the fact that the population studied received the trivalent vaccine rather than the quadrivalent one, which the authors suggest as one possible explanation. It could be that the vaccine was a poorer match than typical for the flu strains in circulation this past season.
But it's extremely stupid to conclude from this single, limited study that all vaccines are useless.
Lucky.Mine worked great I’m posting off the WiFi from my tricep right now
Author admitted that they only had access to Cleveland Clinic data. People could have gone to another clinic and they wouldn't know, but would have counted it as a didn't get the flu. Not what I would call a scientific study. It's a pre-print study meaning it hasn't gone through peer review. The biggest anti-vaxxer in this country shot heroin into his veins for 14 years. LolI do love "you are going to put that **** in your body" bit, while most of us smoke, chew, slam fast food, drink 5 days a week and live off aspirin.
On a husker game day, if I am in Lincoln, I will have eaten a crappy breakfast, had 1-2 shots, 3-4 beers, chips, a rail dog at the Brass Rail, more chips, a ZYN and a clove cig...all before 11am.The biggest anti-vaxxer in this country shot heroin into his veins for 14 years. Lol
You can't make this **** up.
True, but I don't believe you're claiming that you'll be healthier because you're doing all of the things you mentioned. On a husker game day, if I am in Lincoln, I will have eaten a crappy breakfast, had 1-2 shots, 3-4 beers, chips, a rail dog at the Brass Rail, more chips, a ZYN and a clove cig...all before 11am.
Just like most of us, yet we still have people lecturing others on what they put into their bodies! HAHAHA
