To me Mad Men had a bit of an Emperor's new clothes problem. It was highly critically acclaimed, but I never thought it was anywhere near the level of The Wire, Sopranos, or any other truly top show. The themes got repetitive very quickly. I was already aware that everyone smoked and drank too much and treated women badly in the 50's and 60's. For lack of other things to watch at the time, I did end up watching the entire series though. It does have its rewarding moments.
I just watched season 1 of Pennyworth on a free Epix day and enjoyed it. It is the story of young Alfred Pennyworth (former SAS soldier before becoming Bruce Wayne's butler) in an alternate history 1960s London.
On Amazon Prime I recommend: the Boys, Fleabag, Jack Ryan, Bosch, 1st season of Goliath, Carnival Row, and Sneaky Pete.
If you have not watched Black Mirror, almost every episode is a gem.
