Today, I received the good news that I tested positive for Corona Virus antibodies indicating past infection and negative for current infection. This is a test that takes 10 minutes to process, I received at my doctor's office. Lab Corp has a test that takes two days to get the result. I can and probably will donate blood plasma to help others with the disease. I still should social distance so I don't passively help spread the virus (very unlikely). I work in NYC and likely brought the disease home.

If you have felt ill at all during this pandemic, please get tested. The more positives we find the less likely that a second wave would occur. Open the State and college football!!!

Are you saying there is 1 test that checks for both antibodies and current infection or did you take 2 separate tests?

Yes the 10 minute test I took tests for two types of antibodies. One of the types is only present if you have an active infection. I you have any symptoms they would give you aseparate test only for active infection which might not have produced any antibodies at all yet.

My Neighbor who is a nurse at one of the largest hospitals in North Jersey told us the other day that this is pretty available right now. My wife and I are both interested in setting up an appointment. Knight, I'm glad you are looking into donating plasma and am glad that you had such a mild case of it you may hot have even known.

Were you or your insurance company billed for the antibody test separately ? Hopefully not, I think the more people that get this test, the more the CDC will be able learn and plan about accelerating (or not) the pace of society getting back to normal.

I think LabCorp announced they are doing antibody testing via appointment without a doc Rx or referral. So anyone can get it now.

If you are in NYC these have been available at most urgent cares. Usually no appointment needed. Should be covered by insurance.

Yes, antibody testing is widely available. For example, LabCorp is doing COVID-19 IgG Antibody Tests . Check that out here if interested.

However, LabCorp is NOT doing saliva swabs for ACTIVE illness testing. They don't want you to enter any of their facilities if you have any current symptoms or even THINK you might be currently sick.

If you're sick (or think you're currently sick) contact a healthcare professional (doctor, hospital, teledoc, etc.)... don't go to some lab or some minuteClinic at CVS - they're not set-up to handle you.

It takes less than 5 minutes to sign-up and make an appointment for the Ig Antibody test. And most locations you can get an appointment in less than 24 hours - test results back in 2 days.

Again - LabCorp says don't even bother coming to them if:
  • Are feeling sick or have had a fever within the last 3 days.
  • Want to understand if you currently have COVID-19.
  • Have been diagnosed with COVID-19 less than 10 days ago.
  • Were directly exposed to the virus in the past 14 days.
  • Have a condition that weakens your immune system.

geez, you can't go near the labs that test for antibodies if you have a symptom--do some of you know the difference--there are people on TV jammed on lines in Hackensack who are not sick waiting to see if they have the virus as if they then have some kind of immunity--by the way its very quick and easy to get the anti body test

Yes I ran a fever for 3 days as high as 101.9, tired, my hair hurt if I ran my fingers through it and a cough. I didn't have any respiratory distress so I just hunkered down. FYI I'm 69 years old. This was on March 24 to 26.

Awesome information - My sister in law is a nurse involved in plasma testing and told me it is very very effective as a treatment for advanced cases. Good news that you recovered. Open up the country!

You are behind - my town is now doing testing for anyone. I live next to two testing sites and the last two weeks there were no lines at all.

My family have all been tested 2x for antibodies. Easy to do. We did twice in part because of questions raised about accuracy of tests. I tested positive for IgG antibodies both times. I had a cold in early March and also lost 8/9 lbs in two weeks for no reason. So I was lucky to have a mild case of covid 19. Have a June 3 appointment with ARC for plasma donation. Also easy to do. Complete a form on their web site. They called two days later to confirm information and book appnt.

I would caution that a lot of the antibody tests are complete crap. So it is important to know what test they used and if it is a reliable one.
