I want to say something cheap and fan-like about this, but he's just a kid and it's probably a smart move on his part. It's also gutsy to speak out about it. Applause, applause. I hope he finds what he needs and comes out better on the other end. I look forward to seeing him back against the Cats.

DJ seems like a brave kid. To face mental illness is a serious thing. I applaud him for doing everything possible to improve his mental health. To go public with it and to face it is a scary thing. I hope for all the best for this young man- that he gets the help he needs and comes out even stronger as a result.

Absolutely. Give the kid a lot of credit, and certainly hope he comes out the better for it.

Best wishes to him. A young man in my daughter's grade committed suicide 2 days ago. Mental illness is serious and I applaude Carton's efforts to overcome it.

Best of luck to him, definitely a hard and scary decision not only to step back, but to make that public statement on why.

Without Carton, OSU does not win last Sunday in Evanston.
I’m sure it’s just fan-perspective, but we often seem to be facing team just before one of their stars get suspended or hurt, or just after they return fully healthy.

The reactions are pretty neat - lots of support and positive words.

Among the 50 or so I looked at, only one was negative. Unsurprisingly, from an IU fan.

That took courage. I think it’s a good thing that he went public. Hopefully that gives OSU fans some important perspective, and they continue to support him. College sports fans can be brutal. They’re still kids.....
