About 100 fans showed up to watch the structured practice. I didn't get to see the shooting drills but have brief thoughts.

Best player on the floor without a doubt.........Swannegan. He was everywhere. Bigger and stronger.

The Seniors were far superior to everyone else. I don't see a lot of playing time for the newcomers.

Wright looked really good . Juice held out but it did not seem anything serious.

I have seen Senior teams fade over and over but maybe this one will be the exception. There are a bunch of great kids there who want to win big.

Going to the football game. Will leave it to others for more detail, but the bottom line was Swannegan, Swannegan, Swannegan.

LOVE this report on Brandon!!
Saw some of scrimmage, Shooting is still a big concern. Brandon played tough but not sure I can place so much love his way. Not impressed with Birt in this open scrimmage. Bunch of young recruits at this practice and the big from Dallas there with his mother.

Yikes... If we still haven't addressed shooting... Size and shooting were the two things we needed to address from last season. If we can't shoot this year I'd say this recruiting class (as well as the last one) was a waste

The season is over. Let's not even go. We are so screwed. Thank you pod for letting us know not to waste our lives. I will start watching euro soccer instead and pretend I know what I'm talking about like everyone else.

Larry Lewis attended and took copious notes...also got quotes from Coach Haith. He sent me his full report, which I'll publish tomorrow morning.

Can Etou practice? I.I., no mention of Edogi?
Yes , Etou was practicing. He really needs this year to get the system down and work on his skills, TK was there and looked fine. Dre and Brandon just seem so much taller. Big E was there too. Is he a Senior, Junior or will he redshirt ??? It changes everyday in the paper.

I saw Big E on campus on Friday & asked him whether it(redshirt) had been approved yet. Acted like he hadn't got a negative or positive answer yet.(His answer was a bit difficult to follow because his grasp of English still seems very basic.)

"E no hear from NCAA. If E play, E smash"

Sarcasm of course

Wow Gold, I AM indeed excited about this year. Quit trying to make everyone Debbie Downer . The stars will still be Harrison, Wright and probably Woodard (although he was held out of practice). Suspect Taplin will get a bunch of time at the point and rumors are he may get a starting nod by conference. In the scrimmage there were a bunch of 3's taken and although I did not keep track of exact numbers seems like they missed a bunch.. Swany has bulked up his legs and played good but still think Wright, Harrison, and Ray looked better. ( Ray did hit 2 open 3's) The transfer from Rutgers looks active on the boards but he is sitting out this year.
Again Gold, no need to interpret the meaning of my post, "it is what it is", quoting the newest member of the Gonzaga coaching staff. I just did not see any great improvement in our shooting from a short scrimmage and thought Swanny was good but not to the level as originally mentioned in this thread.
As always, my thoughts.

Lol @ middle aged. +2. Seriously though, my post was a joke more Aston's reaction to you than you. I couldn't go yesterday and have nothing to comment on.

I didn't see practice, but I did expect to hear Birt was hitting shots. We'll still be above average with all the returners we have... But we seriously need outside shooting to be elite.

ITS senior writer Larry Lewis breaks down Tulsa basketball's Saturday practice and scrimmage, while providing his impressions of the Hurricane players and quotes from Coach Frank Haith.

That didn't make me feel any better. I am hoping a player or two's talent is getting covered up by them playing on the inexperienced b-team.

As I read this Birt was being effectively guarded. I don't read much into the first scrimmage for a newcomer.
But, I am excited. Hoping to avoid senioritis (and "the year we have(n't) been waiting for").

You have to think that someone's going to be bumped from the 'A' team when Juice gets back to full health though.

I remember Nolan talking about Paul Pressey and David Brown getting to Tx Western
a couple of weeks earlier than the others their first summer there....He said David couldn't
even get his shot off against Pressey for the first two-three week in their one-on-ones....
We all (the old ones anyway:rolleyes:) remember how well David turned out...

It will take the youngsters some time to adjust to the more intense guarding they will be
playing against at this level.....I think it will be a while before we know what we have in
the new players.....

Just heard an Pop and Hines discussing the opening practice and some of the things that Haith has said. One of the things Haith said they had Shaq on was changing his shooting motion so it is more repeatable and consistent. We'll see how that turns out.
