Why is this school consistently prone to abnormal and in some cases unprecedented levels and incidence of athletic failure?
There has to be a logical reason.
There are people within the administration that does everything to sink the programs. They believe we should play schools like Lafayette or Lehigh. We haven't been a small school for a long time. That train has left the station. We most of those idiots don't recognize is the number and quality of students applying to Rutgers increases when one of the sports programs is visible and doing well. Everyone wants to be associated with winners who experience success. Losers cut of their noses to spite their faces.

Many said RU is built on some cursed burial ground. After this season I’m starting to believe it.

we need calipariGarbage coach, pure and simple.
No, not some in administration or either of the two boards or any governor. Only some faculty shouting at the clouds who are ignored. The issue is simply failed hires. When’s the last time BC, Stanford and Georgetown were relevant. Are we sure DePaul even has a team since Ron Meyer (oops, correction: Ray Meyer … that’s how long it has been/ Ron was an NFL HC) and Terry Cummings ?There are people within the administration that does everything to sink the programs. ?? So you're saying Pkke has never won at Ru. Guess what ,he has. Some would say the portal, lack of NIL money and having mostly freshmen are reasons he lost.Again I ask, why ask fans to put up money for a team that has had little to no success in 40 years? That’s called a bad investment.
If Pike can’t win with Dylan/Ace, why give him money up waste on lower end talent?
The short and long answer is coaching.

Maybe it's the times. Even more than ever after covid and the portal teams have very old and experienced players. 17and 18 year olds no matter how good, can't win it all on their ownThe short and long answer is coaching.
Duke is doing very well with three freshmen startersMaybe it's the times. Even more than ever after covid and the portal teams have very old and experienced players. 17and 18 year olds no matter how good, can't win it all on their own
Our lottery picks are ball-dominant shot hunters who don’t play team offense either due to Pike’s plan or because they aren’t suited to it.Duke is doing very well with three freshmen starters.
It’s just excuse excuse excuse over and over. Oh, and you’re a fool if you don’t throw money at the problem. Some are just in denial.Duke is doing very well with three freshmen starters
I stopped liking Hobbs when I saw him at the State Theatre for the 150 Anniversary of College Football show. He had bad shoes on with worn out heels. Looked like a hobo.Didn't like the Hobbs hire from day one - a lot did.
Doug, I have been a Rutgers sports fan since the undefeated basketball and football seasons of 1976. That is when my Dad and I started going to Rutgers events. A family up in Sussex County with no connection to Rutgers before then. There have been endless admins and profs who have been fighting Rutgers Athletics from the days of Bloustein and probably before. I think they are actually happy when we lose. There is also a significant percentage of students who are like this too. I remember running into a Rutgers student years ago, a senior, and he told me how proud he was that he never went to a single football game and only one basketball game in four years. He said it with this odd, smug, this is my badge of honor attitude. There are people within the administration that does everything to sink the programs. Logic like that will get you nowhere on this board.I don’t understand the self flagellation on this board. To put this chart in perspective, 2018-19 Duke team had 4 NBA players, 14-15 Kentucky had 7, 13-14 Kansas had 4, 11-12 Kentucky had 6, 9-10 Kentucky had 7 and 06-07 Ohio State had 4. We will have 2 who played for us as 18 year olds and are both probably a year or two away from seeing significant game minutes in the NBA. I hope they sign massive contracts and give some back to Rutgers in the form of NIL. The pleasure some of you take in our failures (which admittedly are too numerous to count) is baffling, some of you actually want Pike gone with no AD, how does that make sense and explain to me who we would attract and how that would be better for the program?
Quite possibly the stupidest thing ever written on this board.Real coaching.
Question for Pike apologists, what do you think our record would be with Pike coaching Duke’s roster? My guess - pretty close to 15-17.

I don’t know what 27-3 means. If you’re referring to records Duke is 33-3. If your point is that they would be 15-17 if Pikes is the coach, then yes, you are a cement head.So - I will put you in the 27-3 column based on Pike’s history of excellence?
And my post is stupid?
It would be a helluva lot better than 15-17. It’s a much better roster, with a great big and a player who can do it all, including elevating players around him.Real coaching.

The fact anyone thinks the two rosters are even comparable is comical. It would be a helluva lot better than 15-17. It’s a much better roster, with a great big and a player who can do it all, including elevating players around him.
And the flip side: Scheyer wouldn’t do any better than Pike with Rutgers.
It’s 100x easier to recruit at Duke so you can’t compare coaches. Relative to high-major teams only, Duke has a Benz roster and RU has a Pontiac roster.
Yes very stupid because other than the outside money that went to Ace & Dylan, Pike had less than $1m to spend on the other transfers combined. This was only disclosed after the season by Richie. So - I will put you in the 27-3 column based on Pike’s history of excellence?

Why do you keep ignoring that mist schools didn't have $3 million plus paid kids handed to the....which put total salary over $4 millionYes very stupid because other than the outside money that went to Ace & Dylan, Pike had less than $1m to spend on the other transfers combined. So we gave our coach a KMart blue light special bankroll and expected filet mignon.
The schools we compete with?? Nope they have more than us because of guys like you.Why do you keep ignoring that mist schools didn't have $3 million plus paid kids handed to the....which put total salary over $4 million
Ironic geo helped kill itPike was able to have a few on the bubble seasons in an era that no longer exists. Even than, the offense was generally dreadful. Post-NIL (thanks, Geo, who ironically killed the program he helped have some limited success), he has been a joke. Legit one of the worst coaches is major college basketball.
Turn on any game today - are we running anything close on offense to what these teams are doing? No. Year after year, it’s the same stupid half court offense that has little chance of being successful.
Oh, and several points. On the portal - he brought all those guys in. And generally they all sucked this year. Freshman? Please stop. Only Pike loses with these guys. And NIL - again, don’t ask for money when you can’t prove you can do something with it. I’m glad he bamboozled an extension and will be here for all eternity, but I hope his apologists enjoy the 7-23 season next year, which will convince no one to give NIL,
And another thing about this years failure - what big time recruit is coming here now? He clearly blew it, even after Ace and Dylan go to the NBA and have success.
Yep, many people are like this in the north east in general. The further south you get the more sports friendly people are. Look at how much towns are willing to spend on highschool sports in the south lolDoug, I have been a Rutgers sports fan since the undefeated basketball and football seasons of 1976. To be fair to Geo, this is not what exactly he envisioned. Not what any of this was supposed to be. Blame it non action by the NCAA and courts. It's now the wild west.Ironic geo helped kill it
Just look at some posters here they relish complaining about RUYep, many people are like this in the north east in general. The further south you get the more sports friendly people are. Look at how much towns are willing to spend on highschool sports in the south lol
I think some of them are what used to be called "ru1000" or something like that. Revenge of the nerds because they feel they can trick people on the Internet with fake news..Just look at some posters here they relish complaining about RU

Personally I'm not against NIL, never was, but it has to have some controls. Here we go, I'll never understand how you see all of this money being thrown at these kids and look at that as a bad thing. Apparently there has always been money available for them that they weren't allowed to receive. The very nature of that is anti-capitalism and anti American lol guarantee you the people most against NIL don't see it that way. But you guys are supporting communism.
Except he did not. It was the Supreme Court case.Ironic geo helped kill it
That’s not what the other poster saidExcept he did not. It was the Supreme Court case.
Geo helped to ensure players like himself would stop being exploited. I applaud him and his great work. If anything he got screwed because the “Adults” have not figured out, or even made a valiant effort to put proper guard rails and rules in place.Ironic geo helped kill it
