I see a dozen threads speculating about the qb position and yet I think it is obvious we have been in our 15 year funk mostly because our guys in the trenches are no longer the biggest and baddest. Hopefully Frost will address this huge problem with a better S&C program but also with new recruits. I guess this year it will be mostly on improved S&C unless we can find a few juco guys at the last minute. Agree?

One of the problems I think with our offensive line the past three years or so is that they never practiced against anyone who could even remotely be called a good pass rusher. The last one was Randy Gregory. If you don't see it in practice it is hard to polish your technique. As for run blocking... who the hell knows? But it might be a similar problem. We haven't had good run stuffers on the defensive line since Collins and Valentine left.
The guys out of high school were 3 and 4 star talents. I’m not sure if it’s how they were taught, how they were developed in practice (e.g., not going full speed), or a lack of strength training, but I have to think they have the natural talent that can be developed under a new regime.
I think the Davis Twins have the ability to play at a very high level. Maybe with less "bull rush and put their hands up" type crap, and more use different techniques to rush in different situations will help a ton.
Luckily we had a decent class in 2017 for the DL because we will need it. Frost better end up signing a good DL class or our depth will be an issue there in a couple years.

I'd love to see our OL have some guys like Richie Incognito & Ricky Henry who were just plain nasty and went out there to knock the snot out of people.
Watch the OL on the current UCF team. They were not overpowering in the film I watched. What they did have was good footwork and body placement. The back gets to the hole pretty quickly so body positioning is key. I would think more body control and technique based on the D will go a long ways. The days of locking onto a guy and driving him into the ground have changed.
Different scheme IMO will help on both sides of the ball. If we continue to run a 3-4 2 gap I wouldn't look for our D line to look a lot better but I would expect a different DC to make our back 8 look better.
Strength AND conditioning. Better conditioned athletes can give stronger play. I suspect these kids will experience many new things about themselves in the process. Why at their peak were Jerry Rice and Roger Craig so much better than others? Take a look

From what I have seen from UCF fans, the OL made the largest strides of any position group in Frosts tenure. Part of that is coaching, as I think that Austin is a good coach. The other part is that Frost's offense is somewhat friendly to the OL. Misdirection, cut blocking, and good angles help the OL a lot.
If you watched the blocking scheme under Riley, they asked a lot of the OL/TEs. There were a lot of reach blocks, many for a TE trying to seal a DE, which often ended poorly since it is such a difficult block and it is asking a ton from a TE. Also, I don't think anybody was really sold on Cav by the end of his tenure.

Comparing a picture of Cavanaugh with the picture of Austin at Huskers.com should tell you everything you need to know. One is a butterball, the other has a 1000-yard stare and scars on his face. I think Austin will find the nasties.
