James Alcorn was a former Governor and Senator from Mississippi. He was also a Brigadier General in the Confederacy

I took my sister, her daughter, my son, and her German exchange student to the last game we played Alcorn at Scott Field. That was several years ago. The German wanted to know why the bands were so different. We tried to explain it. We had tried to explain Mississippi history to her so I hope she understood. Her one question was why the BANDS were so different. We couldn't really answer that one, especially since we all liked the Alcon band better, two MSU alums, and one future one, it is what it is.
