OL depth and questions?

OK, how do we stack up on the O line after spring and heading into fall? I think Brendan Jaimes is an All Big 10 talent at OT. Sichterman and Gaylord are good backups right now. Farniok is a good player but think he is better suited at OG. Big question. Can Bryce Benhart play right away at other OT spot opposite Jaimes moving Farniok to OG? That would give us some more options on the line. Boe Wilson is a stud. Raridon is coming along. A few walk ons have been pleasant surprises. AJ Forbes played a lot, Trent Hixson and Hunter Miller are in the mix for serious PT. Another big question. Is Cam Jurgens going to be the guy at C? If he starts this year, stays healthy and gets his snaps down, I think he will be an All Big 10 Center by his Jr year. He can move and get to the second level like no Center we have had in awhile. Could be a special player. Will Farniok is also an option. Final question. Where is Broc Bando? Is he even in the mix? Haven't heard a peep since he came here from IMG. After this year and the following years with Corcoran and Bryce as the future bookends and Cam at Center this line could be very special and very soon. Banks, Fritche, Lynn and Anderson are all at least a year away. Fire away and tell me your thoughts and answer some of these big questions.

I didn't think jurgens did too bad at center but really hard to tell since he wasn't going against the ones. For only a handful of practices at a new position and starting.... impressive from that standpoint for me

Losing the Davis twins and Darron Daniels and Daishon Neal after this season, even though he still hasn’t seen any playing time in a game yet in a meaningful game..

So for now we need Ethan Piper on the Defensive line..
Looking at the roster we really need to get some more OG and NG in this class. More big boys and maulers on both lines.

Nash will be a good start at NG. Any other good O and D lineman we are in on for this year? Legit shot? We are in Reece Atteberry top 5. 4 star OT from Colorado.

I thought so too. Also, both Darrion and Damien Daniels were on the red with Jurgens, so Jurgens was going against our 3rd string

Bando (#73) was at Left tackle for the Whites most or all of the spring game.

I really think Sichterman ultimately ends up inside. Farniok may move to OG, and Will F can play either guard or center.

IMO Bando would never have been offered if he wasn't a Lincoln kid that went to IMG. Walker will stay on the DL and be a "providing depth" guy for his career .

I noticed AJ Forbes made a ton of mistakes. A guy like that should be making the most of his opportunities in a spring game setting and he didn't. Cam Jurgens made some mistakes, but I thought he did pretty well overall. I thought Will Farniok played well too. Overall their performance wasn't bad at all. Would like to see them handle some of the blitzes better.

What about Jahkeem Green? Heard he might be N for this fall.
Was just wondering the same thing. I've been looking for a report. If we could get Green, Sekona and Nash we'd be frickin loaded in the middle.

I was at the spring game and paid attention to the line play BUT my seats were only 3 rows up so it was difficult to see a lot but the recruits did walk right past us to go up to their seats.

I am not worried about Farniok at RT but our guards or one of the guards was getting a butt whoppin most of the game. Now it wasn't just one guard but multiple guards at either the right or left, I could not tell.

I saw Benhart walk past us several times and he is a tall dude and has the frame to grow into what a big time LT should be but at this moment he needs to add at least 40 lbs minimum. His body is not filled out at this point to play against Big ten Defensive ends. Maybe by last 5 games he will be able to grow into that but most who play during the year don't gain muscle and weight its done in the spring and summer. Its hard during the year for players to gain most are happy just to maintain.

Our new Nose tackle Daniels is one really big dude. That man has an NFL nose tackle body right now. If he can play like he looks he will be one serious problem for opposing teams.

Lol someone commented yesterday on the Spring Game thread and it made me smile, something along the lines of:

"Hey, who is No. 79? (It's Darrion Daniels). He looks like a grown *** man pushing kids around out there."

That is music to my ears. I can't wait for our D line to go up against Wisconsin's O-line and slap them around.

HBK, didn't see the Spring Game, can you comment on how much better our DL is compared to last year, is this a potential reason for some perceived struggles at OL? Thanks in advance for your take.

Bigger bodies and better depth on D line this year. The O line might have a few growing pains replacing a couple starters. And breaking in a new center will be a challenge. Austin will put together the best 5 and get them ready by fall. They are finally building some depth also.

Not sure what game you were watching Oldjar07?AJ Forbes looked impressive in the run game and pass pro. He finished blocks nasty and was the only O-lineman that played multiple positions... C and both RG and LG. Says a lot about what the staff thinks about this young man. He has a bright future in Lincoln and certainly took advantage of his opportunity Sat. Nice to see so much, so early out of all three of these guys... good things to come for years upfront!

Don't forget the #1 JC center in the nation is walking on and will be here this summer. Iowa Western center Joshua Wegner was 6'2"/285 in December and has big weightroom numbers. As I recall, he was a defensive player and played center for only one year because IWCC needed one and he became the top JC center after his 2018 season.

Interesting, he appears to be very athletic too! Wow, nice. If he gains 10-15 lbs will be a talented OC.

I like this addition, but did someone say he’s coming off injury? And mastering playbook in short time could be a tall order.

This offensive line will only be as good as our center play is. I'm very concerned about center.
