I don't take pleasure in anyone's misfortune but Gundy has chronically under-performed for decades, and that was with the financial support of a billionaire.

Unfortunately, it's what have you done for me lately. It's hard when you are the second fiddle in your state. He was lucky enough to be the quarterback in the Barry Sanders era. Good luck with your future endeavors.

zac robinson, atl's o'coordinator, likely gets offered that job. zac like gundy was a poke qb back in the day.

disappointed in how oSu did this. they should have let it play out and then have a nice retirement statue built like bill snyder.

Followed them pretty closely, as I live in Oklahoma.

I’d say he’s underperformed the last two seasons, but he has done better than anyone else has at that school.

Yes, he had support from T. Boone, but T. Boone pretty openly feuded with him and was lobbying for him to be fired, which is what prompted Gundy to interview for Florida a few cycles back.

Oklahoma State was always destined to be a middle of the pack school, he gave them some incredible wins that I was highly jealous of, I would kill for a season as successful as even 2021.

If Atlanta’s offense looks decent by the end of the year he’ll be getting NFL calls

It will be interesting to see if Gundy gets any interest from a Power 4 school looking for a head coach after the season. My guess is not this year, but maybe in two or three years.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see him sit at an NFL gig in a consulting type position for a few years.

He should be looking carefully at what Dana is doing, making bank while calling plays and leaving the other BS to the head guy. I don't actually even know if he's a good play caller? It will be interesting to see if his removal results in them winning any games this year.

Dude is almost 60 with a $15 million buyout. Might just ride off in to the sunset.
Amen!
I am a little surprised they did not let him finish the season and then sort of have him "retire" while still getting all his money. Just because he is probably the best coach they have ever had and will ever have. It is not like they have Urban Meyer waiting.

Also, should a coach at a current school or currently coaching anywhere be able to take this job right now? I mean, once you have a job it would totally be dishonorable to ever leave it and take a new job.

The way it works now, you want have your next coach id’d long before the season is over.

I see the passive aggressiveness at the end of your post. No head coach will leave to be a coach somewhere else in the midst of a season

What about an asst coach or NFL asst coach?
Either way, no one with a current be taking this job! It just isn't right :)

I could possibly see an assistant working something out with a school. But I would be shocked if one does. At least until the regular season is over. Also don’t want to burn bridges as an assistant especially at the NFL level. If you fail potential suitors to hire them will see they left in the middle of the season to coach else where.

The NCAA football transfer portal will open for 30 days for Oklahoma State players -- inlcuding former Gretna QB Zane Flores, Omaha Westside WR Jaylen Lloyd and Oakland-Craig OL Grant Seagren -- with the school parting ways with head coach Mike Gundy.

How has Seagram performed? I haven’t seen a lot of Okie at. Lord knows we need all the ol help we can get. Any big d tackles?

I guess the last decade of NU football struggles has changed my perspective, but OSU could have done alot worse than Gundy. 18 straight winning seasons/bowl appearances, including 8 years with 10+ wins. He was more successful than Jimmy Johnson was.

That is true. Now, the nice thing is, a HC gig is basically a winning lotto ticket. This job will be, at least 5 million a year for 6 years and that might be on the low end?

So even if you did burn some bridges you should be set for life.

No kidding. Give me a 15 million buyout flame out as a coach I will graciously disappear

Although coaches at those levels are a different breed. Billy B has all the money he will ever need and a smoke show gf and yet goes to the tar heels to coach.

For him he’s chasing ghost of a coach who won championships in the pros and college. That’s the take I’ve heard that made sense but NC also made his son next in line from what I’ve read. Securing the seed of your loin’s future may be enough incentive.

I remember when Callahan was the coach and OSU played us in Lincoln in I think? a homecoming game. The score was 38-0 at halftime and Gundy more or less called the dogs off.

Bruce Pearl BB coach at Auburn just steps down and his son now takes over. We would all do the same.

OK State doesn't have a single lineman better than what we have - and that's saying something. Tulsa beat up their offensive line like Michigan beat ours. And two weeks ago, Oregon's defense ran roughshod all over their line. A beat down at the line of scrimmage the likes of which is rarely seen when two P4 schools go at it. No, thank you.

I personally don’t want anyone coming from a program that bad.

Would they possibly be interested in Dana? They had prolific offenses with him.
Never say never, but I doubt it.

a) they had front row seats to his disaster at Houston

b) Dana legit hated living in Stillwater. I have a buddy who played for the 2010 team, said the guy couldn’t get out of there fast enough, lived in a hotel the entire time

Dana going leave us most likely sooner rather than later. Might not be Okie Lite, but every game he's here is just gravy on the taters.
