He forgot to mention his stats were……….With the best player in the history of their program as QB, and maybe (debatable) the most dynamic player in college football ever. I’d say manziel years were the high water mark.

I'm sure it has. Do you think that will stop them from trying once they are in? I don't. It's in their DNA. They are the worst of Alabama and Ole Miss combined.

Trouble, you mean like Bama beating everyone in football. Texas isn't trouble.

Actually, Mississippi State University is a charter member of the SEC. This is not a myth-it’s a fact. The SEC isn’t going to remove a charter member unless said member behaved very badly. They certainly won’t remove a charter member because of W/L record or something of that nature. Look, I lived in central Texas for 12 years back in the 1990’s and early 2000’s and I know how UT operates. I know how terrible those teasippers are-I hate them worse than I do Alabama and Auburn (yes, that Auburn cult is pretty bad) fans. I’ve always felt that UT is what Old Miss would be if they were a big school with money. A bunch of arrogant, entitled pricks. They (UT) are coming to our house. They asked to come. They are going to be another big fish in another big pond in the SEC-and the pond is much, much bigger than any pond they’ve ever been in. UT can try to throw their weight around but they will quickly find out that there are many other heavyweights to contend with over here. I believe that UT’s teams are about to find out what it feels like to get hit in the mouth on a regular basis as an SEC member. In the Big 12 they have had really one big, physical opponent on their schedule (OU) every year-in the SEC they are going to have a bunch of games each year against multiple physical opponents who are capable of beating them. I realize that their mindset of being the “baddest dog on the block” will still be there, but I can see that facade deteriorating as the realities set in. Texas is about to receive an attitude adjustment to go along with that big payday they will be receiving. In the meantime, Mississippi State will continue to be a member in good standing in the SEC regardless of the “Johnny Come Lately” schools like UT or OU. The SEC needs schools like ours to keep a balance to the league. You really should stop talking about the SEC kicking us to the curb. It’s not going to happen.
The rule concerning this was posted here a couple of days ago. There is no "Charter Member" rule.

I don’t get the Texas hate. It brings a lot to the SEC in terms of money and stature. A&M on the other hand has a similar record in the SEC as it had in the B12 and SWC— mediocre over a long period of time. It has benefitted from the SEC giving it highly favorable scheduling but that will end, as it should.

Texas isn’t stupid — it is asking to be a part and wouldn’t try to run things. Texas will need to compete in the SEC and wouldn’t make the move if it didn’t think that moving would help its recruiting and ability to compete. And I believe State will benefit economically and that there is going to be more parity—not less— as time goes by. State has beat Texas 2 of the last 3 times they played and Ole Miss split the last two games. That sounds like a good deal from our perspective for welcoming Texas to the conference.

What am I missing (other than “Texas is a meanie” etc)

So a second place west finish is their signature accomplishment.

Winning the Cotton and Orange bowls to finish top5 in the country twice in 9 seasons could be viewed as an accomplishment.

It's probably all how you look at things. You can always diminish accomplishments that are anything but winning it all.

Seems like we accomplished that too. Yes, Mississippi State. And he is comparing a team that did what Mississippi State did, to a theoretical team that conquered the SEC.

glfr gonna glfr. I guess this is why he stays out of sports discussion.

That's the point. During a run when they've been recruiting lights out and been 'up', they still have not won anything. They had the Heisman trophy winner and beat the eventual national champion, but lost 2 games. That is the grind of the SEC. Their only true national championship caliber year was last year.

I'm sure you also think "mIzZoU hAs DoNe WeLl!!11" since they went to some SEC Championship games.

This is Texas A&M. Second ranked AD in the country as far as revenue. Biggest stadium out there in the richest state out there with talent everywhere (allegedly - I actually think this is their problem). And they have mid-level type results.

It wasn't until they brought in Jimbo, who understands the need for dominant line play, that they started to really get after it.

The earlier point was that A&M struggled.
But now that details have been provided, the point is that even thought they beat the eventual national champ, finished top 5 in the first season and top 20 in the second season, and had a Heisman winner, they struggled.

Ok then.

Your claim was thst A&M struggled when it came to the SEC. A&M did not struggle, based on season ending metrics. They actually had a great first season and a strong second season.

It's like they did the opposite of struggle.

I didn't forget to mention that. Just because something isn't mentioned doesn't mean it was forgotten. I didn't mention a lot more that I could have, but it wasn't due to forgetting.

But regardless- you actually agree with me. You recognize A&M didn't struggle when they came to the SEC since you say that's their high water mark.
Neat, glad we agree. Toad claims they struggled and you see they didn't.
Good stuff.

I wonder what will happen if one of the two decide not to wait and buy their way out before the other?

It's a package deal. They'll negotiate/litigate the buyout together, along with the SEC.

If Ole Miss didn’t get kicked out for the crap they were busted for, then it’ll take a boatload to deserve removal, but then again MSU has been given the short end of the stick before.

Agree. I think adding the two will spice things up a bit. And losing to them in football as we do to bama every year is not a given.

I'm in this camp. They are a major pain in the *** and think they are actually God's chosen team and people. They do have a heavy influence and carry weight. They can be a problem in different forms for the SEC for sure.

But there's one important thing that I've learned living here in Austin and listening to these fans as I had no dog in the fight with their discussions. They have so many factions that try to run things they can't get ahead for their own ********. If they had one person or at least a small group of people in charge of things they would be a juggernaut in sports but they have several groups of big money people who are all trying to run the thing and all pulling in different directions which ends up in a jumbled mess.

If they ever get their **** together they will be a problem but I just don't see it happening from my perspective. Too many big ego spread around the state. Think of Alabama without Saban and with five times as many people and twenty times the money.

Oklahoma is just full of a bunch of crazy rednecks with a huge over inflated sense of purpose. They can be a really good team one year and then crappy the next.

The one thing you guys are missing is college football is about to seriously change and even Alabama is going to have to change to keep up. I have no idea what these changes are going to be but with the influx of money to players and super conferences being created it's going to be a fun ride to watch... I hope.

Yeah they will try it. And they will get told to STFU. They think they are God's gift, BECAUSE of people being scared of them.

You are part right about them being the worst of Bama and Ole miss. But unlike both of those schools Athletic departments, they have never been told shut your hole. Their problem is they have too many big donors that want to call plays.

The interesting part is who is next. I don't think 16 is the magic number. I bet 4 more names pop up in the next month or so. 20 sounds better than 16

Texas usually signs 5 star diva’s who are cancers to their team. I expect them to stick with that process.

In 2012, their first season they went 6-2 with Manziel. They would not post a +.500 conference record again until 2018. They actually were one game under .500 for those five seasons. Is that supposed to be impressive? That’s not setting the conference on fire in my book.
