We looked like a well coached team. It helped that Arkansas was ice cold from behind the arc, but still a great game by state.</p>

I agree we played well but we also played great defense and I at least admire you for admitting it. All those fools who were going to lay 10 and got baited at 6, welcome to why you don't gamble long and end up with any money.

than in the regular season? I mean, if you look at his quality wins, they almost always come against SEC teams. It's like he treats the OOC schedule as a preseason?

I think he always has to kind of figure out what he has, but by the end of the OOC schedule, he usually figures out what the right combination of players are. That's why he plays everyone and has weird substituiton patterns and everyone thinks he can't coach. And that's also why I don't get all that upset when we lose to someone like Charlotte or South Alabama or whoever. It's hard to tell what you've got going up against Joseph Iupe in practice.

That's why I think we should keep doing a preseason tour like we did a couple of years ago to Canada and like the Final Four team did.

I can't believe Arkansas didn't attack us more inside. Good move by Stans to bring in Osby for Turner early in the first half. Once we did that, they quit going inside.

Great game by Bost offensively and defensively on Fortson.

Good substituion pattern again by Stans. Great win.

Well, the frustrating part about losing those early games is that it either hurts our chances to make the NCAA's or hurts our seeding. And then we play a team like Memphis in the 2nd round when we could have been a better seed and played them later.

But I agree, we should keep playing the preseason trips to prepare us for the regular season.

by running the team ragged right before games to see how they will respond when they are dead tired. Basically, though you hit the nail on the head. Stansbury uses the out of conference schedule like scrimmages where he works on the team's weaknesses. The best example is that he will make the team play half court offense an entire game to work on half court sets and prepare for teams that try to slow the game down. We have lost games like this because we didn't force the tempo. While this method tends to make us better during the SEC schedule, it also causes us to suffer with RPI and potential to get higher seeds. Stansbury needs to have a breakthrough. Also, I am not sure that Arkansas was at their best tonight, but kudos to our team for wanting it more on the road.

conference schedule. We are still young right now, but I guarantee he gets his best players to play some ball towards season's end, just like he does every year. Hopefully, though, Stans still has his job by then though since GB has such a 'quick trigger finger', because we all know Greg wants to fire someone just to fire them.

I'm going to have some real fun with you....i'm so glad you are an athletic supporter Jean

I'm only negative when it is warranted...I havent said one bad thing about Mullen or Cohen. Byrne is doing the right thing and making our athletic dept better and I am fully on board...

This was a pleasant surprise at a venue that gives us trouble (as well as many others). Savor the moment for what it is, and let's hope this is a start of a foundation for a good conference showing. It's quite possible that we'll lose one we counted on winning (I hope that won't happen).

Coach, we've civilly disagreed on Stansbury, but I'll also be the first to admit that I predicted on this very board that we'd lose this game. Always happy when we win.

(Edited for unbelievably poor spelling....sheesh)

...I applaude Stansbury for his foresight. My issue with that, though, is at what point will we be able to start the season knowing what we've got rather than having to figure it out because of a shortage of upperclassmen?

I certainly do not know all the details behind the rash of transfers over the last several years, but if we ever hope to take it up a notch as a program, that trend has to stop.

used similar tactics to get us ready for the conference season. We had games where we had to pass the ball at least 5 times before anyone could shoot to make sure we were running our motion offense correctly. Also, early in the season our coach would kill us in practice and even make us run suicides 1 hour before a game would start to see how we would respond to playing fatigued. That type of coaching builds toughness as Stansbury loves to preach. If you watch some of our early season games, there are games where we look a step slow and tired from the start. There are also more injuries early in the season. It makes sense that the staff is employing some type of tactics to build toughness in the team. What do you think it is?

If true, this would have to be the dumbest thing ive heard of in a long while.
This is NCAA D1 basketball...you dont have the luxury to use actual games against decent opponents to F around like its a scrimmage. If Stans wants to play a scrimmage, he is allowed to forego an exhibition game and instead have a closed scrimmage against another high level team. Many teams do this every year.

...or maybe you are just making **** up. Cuz what you are suggesting is that Stans is all but conceding defeat in some games in order to make the team pass a certain number of times, or because he is working the players to a point past where injuries happen on purpose.

Either way, if Stans is actually doing this or if you are just making **** up, its absurd.
