Each year I see issues where people try to identify who is responsible for statistics in a game. For some odd reason most everyone thinks that it is the official scorers duty to award assists, blocks, turnovers and other assorted stats to players. That is not correct. The list below shows the duties of the official scorer.
Individual & Team
Timeouts, Running score with times for each event. Same method for fouls.
Points and fouls, made FG'S, made & missed FT'S
Listing off all 5 players in the game, both teams. Possession arrow. Technicals, bench warnings.

All other items are handled by the OFFICIAL STAT crew which is provided by the home team.

Wonder if UK spent the $$$ to fly a stat crew down to the Bahamas and put them up for a few nights at the Atlantis, vs. hiring someone local?
No they did not. It was locals who made the call on stats.

I had always assumed all of it was on the official scorer's shoulders. Thanks for the clarification!

You'd be amazed at how little people know about game operations that never have worked extensively in it. Not saying your ignorant by any means, I didn't know 99% of what went into it before I started working in athletics, there is just a lot involved that you just won't know without doing it yourself. And seemingly every year it becomes more and more work.
