Two moral victories and a terrible loss to end the regular season.

Other teams seem to be hitting their stride and playing their best ball right now, but it’s the same ole tune for our Hawkeyes.

Hoping they can pull it together and get at least a couple more wins.

Personally, with how things are going, I don't see us winning a game in the BTT. Maryland is humming and Oregon is a different team with their star back in the line up.
Oregon also blew a 15+ pt lead at home to Washington and only lost because Washington returned the favor.

We'll lose to Oregon, sure, but it'll still be our own doing, like most of these games have been.

My question is, will the committee put 9 BIG teams in?

This team is in free fall and I still think they are out of the ncaa if they lose their first BTT game. I don't care what the metrics say.
Free fall is a bit dramatic considering they're in all these games win or lose. The problem is you can easily get yourself into a vicious cycle of never being able to get over the hump in close-game situations, regardless of the talent level they're facing.

Fran had that same problem. Lickliter's teams were never good enough for this to be an issue. Alford had this same problem....and Tom had this same problem.

It's a f***ing Iowa problem. The University needs to f***ing fix it. Or we do...........and the officials/refs/B10 league office and Iowa's opponents don't f***ing want us to be the ones fixing it, because then we're getting into "then nobody gets to have nice things" territory.

IMHO this whole thing of having BS play 99.9% of the time is catching up with this team. It is a cute talking point and it may have worked in the MVC but not in the BIG. And he is our leading scorer and the human body can only keep this up for so long before it starts to take its toll.
I suspect we might win 1 in the conference tournament and maybe 1 in the NCAA tournament. Hopefully Ben strikes gold in the portal and next year we see a big improvement.
and oh yeah, big red will lose their next game for sure and maybe get 1 win in the NCAA tourney. Seriously the most overrated 2 seed ever.

Well at minimum he has two games left in his college career, so we'll see how much he wants to coast i.e. "rest while playing" in the first of those minimum 2 games..................

Actually, given Iowa’s record down the stretch, I don’t think free fall is the least bit dramatic.

This team really needs a big to compliment Stirtz (and players need to take open shots when they have them). I think some people tend to forget the Hawks have a mid major roster. What they have accomplished in the Big Ten (late season collapse notwithstanding), is nothing short of amazing.

I think you might be on to something. Honestly, football seems to have the same issue as well, at least this past season. All of those close-but-no-cigar losses to Oregon, Indiana, etc. A couple years ago where they managed to win 10 games basically without an offense was an exception.. But if it's a big game and/or against a ranked opponent, and it's close late.. I pretty much assume it's going to be a loss, whether it's football or basketball.

Iowa isn't playing poorly. They're just not winning. I mean they took #3 Michigan to the wire and lost by 3, then a couple days later took #9 Nebraska to OT in Lincoln before going down. As others have noted, it's not unlike the football team that could have/should have beaten national champion Indiana, playoff team Oregon, and top 20 USC. It's just been a really frustrating year for Iowa men's sports, being on the cusp of great things but not quite getting over the hump.

But the men's basketball team MUST win at least one game in the BIG Tourney, or things will really get dicey.

Sadly, I have a similar feeling. I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst, which would be a loss in the first BIG Tourney game and then being among the first four out of the NCAA Tournament. Ouch.

I have to agree about Stirtz. He looked absolutely gassed from the get-go yesterday, and he never did get a second wind. He stopped shooting because he was so exhausted he didn't have anything on his shot. He made some silly turnovers that, IMHO, were the result of being worn out. I like Ben. I think he was the right hire, but I think he's made some mistakes this season, maybe the biggest one was failing to take the rugby style of the Big Ten into account when considering Stirtz's minutes.

11 a.m. Wednesday in Chicago is coming fast. I just hope Stirtz gets plenty of rest between now and then. He doesn't need to pick up a basketball until the team takes the floor next. He just needs to rest. I wonder how Ben will handle that.

The last 3 games could have easily gone our way with a bounce or another shooter making a wide open 3.
How about just taking care of business vs the worst team in the conference then it wouldn’t matter if we had gotten a bounce.

This is exactly what I and others are getting sick of, no killer instincts. Why are we having to rely on a bounce or someone to hit a three in order to get the win vs a team like PSU? We should’ve curb-stomped them, ripped their hearts out within eight mins into the game.

Anyway, such is life as a Hawkeye fan.

Ben is going to make the NCAA with a DRAKE team. Think about that.
