NU up 30-22 with 5 minutes to go in the half. With it being an exhibition game the substitution pattern is funky but outside that both teams are treating it as a legit game. First impressions thus far....Watson and Palmer look very good. NU with six three pointers thus far with the bulk coming from Watson/Palmer. Jordy and Duby provide a nice presence down low. I don’t have the official stats but while watching it seems as if Copeland and Roby were struggling a bit. Roby was making his presence known on the defensive end but clanked a few wide open shots and a few bad travels. MSU went on a little run thanks to Borchardt...he may be someone that is useful if we need fouls but I’d imagine we won’t see him often.

Shooting has been strangely good. Will probably change against teams that play defense when the real season starts.

Returning nearly everyone (4 starters) that went .500 last year in a power five conference.

I said solid not good. They will beat some teams.

I see. I think we can be a pretty decent team especially if Roby can somehow start hitting shots.

Roby and Copeland should not be shooting from outside based on what I saw today. Flat out ugly.

I was disappointed that the freshmen didn't play, surprising since it was a meaningless exhibition game. They're all supposed to be great outside shooters.

He always is till March.
Not so much last year. Before the season he was very measured in his comments about the team. IF I recall correctly he had a hard time finding more than a handful of wins in the B1G before the season. He thought a finish in the top 8 of the conference would be a very good year for last year's team.

Akenten did not play (only one on the trip to do so I believe) because of "coaches decision". I wonder where he will transfer to next year. Seems like Timmy ballgame has his whipping boy figured out early this year.

I only had it on radio but it sounded like Palmer had a great game. Seemed as if the backcourt play was really solid when Watson, Palmer and Taylor were all in the game together, and sucked out loud when they were not. But if Palmer's good enough to keep Gill on the bench and be the #1 scoring option among guys not named Watson, that would provide a good boost.

Also relieved to learn that NU promoted someone to director of basketball operations, because Lord knows we don't want Marc Boehm having to do too much of whatever it is he does.

I have no idea what the deal is in this particular case but it is at best naive to think that scholarship basketball players don't ever need consequences for their actions.

Do you think that Tim can coach without having a player to consistently ride? Serious question because I don't think he knows how to given his actions.

If a player deserves to have somebody consistently get after him so be it. I've seen plenty of those kind of kids over the years. In my experience working with kids over the past 30+ years I guess I would say that 20% of them need "encouragement" every day to make them fly straight. I just think it's a little early to assume that a kid missing one exhibition game is going to be his "whipping boy". About the only disciplinary option a coach has these days is playing time.
