Not sure if it's been posted but what we gotta do to make thr NIT now after beating Francis and the cuckeyes? Does that get us in or do we need to win a game in the tourney still?

I think the NCAA BB committee selects the 32 team field. No guaranty for NU but should have a darn good shot of making the tournament. PBA attendance likely is a consideration, I would hope.

he 2023 NIT schedule:

  • Selections for the 2023 NIT will be announced Sunday, March 12
  • First-round NIT games are March 14-15 at campus sites
  • Second-round NIT games are March 18-19 at campus sites
  • The quarterfinal NIT games are March 21-22 at campus sites
  • The 2023 NIT semifinals are March 28 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on ESPN
  • The 2023 NIT championship game is March 30 at the Orleans area on ESPN2.
The 2023 NIT will seed the top 16 teams (top-four teams in each pod) and place the remaining 16 teams selected into the bracket geographically where possible.

This is what I texted a friend after the win today

- 1 Win in the Tournament (17) - I can see post season, but it will be tough
- 2 Wins (18) - NIT 4-5 seed
- 3 Wins (19) - Bubble Talk - 1-3 Seed NIT
- 4 Wins (20) - Play in slot in the NCAA's
- Win the Big 10 - 12 Seed no play in

IF (big if) NU wins 4 in the B1G tourney they’ll be dancing and it won’t be as a play-in team.

They aren't even listed in the NIT yet... to go from outside the NIT to in the NCAA without winning Big 10 is going to be tough... so I feel a play in is the scenario if they win 4

There isn't a team on their side of the conference tourney bracket they can't beat...... That being said Minnesota could also beat them too. Potentially fun week ahead though. Championship week is always a blast

We're #93 in the KenPom rankings and #92 in the NET rankings
NET Chart below

  • We're still 29 spots below OSU, despite having better records against Quads 1, 3 and 4.
  • We're 52 spots below Rutgers. We went 6-2 in the last 8 games. RU went 2-6, losing to us.
  • We're 14 spots below Wisconsin and 36 spots below PSU.
  • We lost too many Quad 1 games, 10, the same as Illinois, 1 fewer than UM and 2 fewer than OSU.
  • No. 26 Maryland went 3-9 against Quad 1. They completed a conference season 0-10 on the road.
  • We lost too many games early, and when we lost, we lost by too many points, apparently.
  • A 92 ranking requires us to do some heavy lifting in the conference tournament.
  • Wins over Minnesota, Maryland and Indiana MIGHT get us a low seed in the NIT. MIGHT.

I go off of betting sites for my data as there is no bias on these sites. Nebraska has a winning record against the 11th hardest schedule in the country this year.

I should also add that in 2019, we went 6-14 in the Big Ten, and we got a home game in the NIT. So I guess the NIT is a crapshoot.

Why wouldn’t we get invited to the NIT after beating Minnesota on Wednesday regardless if don’t go any further ?

Minnesota's ranking will drop us even further, win or lose. We'll have to then beat both Maryland and Indiana to get that into the 80s, which still might not be good enough. I mean, we just beat Iowa on the road and rose just two spots, while Northwestern rose seven spots after beating Rutgers on the road, something we also accomplished.

NET ranking doesn't really mean that much. Graduating a lot of TV talking heads is way more important.

True that. Gophers are definitely playing better. Would have taken down Wisconsin last night if not for some late yips at the FT line and some very strange lineup decisions by the MN coach.

I've got a bad feeling about ANOTHER Minnesota game. But then again, I've had a bad feeling about every game for the last month.

This will be only the third time in 21 games this year that Nebraska will be the betting favorite to win:
  1. @ Minnesota
  2. vs. Minnesota in Lincoln
  3. vs. Minnesota in Chicago
That's it. Yet we finished 9-11 and lost two starters for the final two-thirds of the conference season.

That would be a nice matchup. Villanova is not great this year, but it's still a big-brand program that would probably draw a very good crowd.

Nova would be a good team to bring in. But to be honest, PBA will be a sellout no matter the opponent.

Yes I could see that. Jays still caught a break grabbing the 3 seed, though. Otherwise they would have played UConn tomorrow, which is a worse matchup for them.
