I think someone posted that playing the Zags might be ok because they play no one. Ask Virginia's Tony Bennett about that. In a perfect world,Kispert,Timme and Suggs are First Team All-Americans. Best team since Duke 2015. Now Baylor. That's ok. Drew is not a good bench coach. I watched Makai Mason shred them in the NCAA and he never adjusted with superior talent. Also stay far away from Alabama and WVU. Huggs is a great coach and that is one suffocating defense. No issues playing Nova or the others 2s in the second round.

For those who remember, when Rutgers made it to the tournament in 1975, everyone was very excited just to be there. But by the next year, 1976, the expectations were for a deep run, and that is exactly what happened.

Same thing for this year. Making the tournament would be wonderful, but next year, if everyone comes back, would be a disappointment if it does not lead to an Elite Eight or Final Four appearance.

Do you really think that Geo is coming back? Young? Hoping for Myles with Caleb, Montez , Cliff, Jaden (frosh) and the PG (frosh) and major development by Mag, Palmquist, Reber + a potent potable from the portal.

I want no part of the Zags or Alabama or WVU.

Fixed it...

Ok, disregarding the cheekiness of your reply - why isn’t making the tournament enough?

It’ll be breaking the longest running Power 5 tournament drought. A drought that’s engulfed some real lean years. A drought that was extended by the Hand of God several times. Making the tournament will help wash a significant amount of that bad will away.

Why isn’t that enough right now?

I’m not afraid of playing anyone. We have shown we are capable of competing with anyone. We lost to MSU then beat them by 30. We lost to OSU twice but I also remember being up by 20 on them at one point.
we also beat and outscored a high powered offense in Illinois.

if we were to get hot in the NCAA I think teams would be fearing us

Put me in the camp with I don’t care who we play, think we can beat anyone on any given day and if we are one and done will still consider this season a very special and ultimately a success. Like the Insight Bowl. Next year might be in better position for a deep run.

Eh come on guys. Let’s hope for the most favorable first round match up regardless of the seeding to win the first game. Doesn’t matter who your lined up for second if you don’t win the first game. Making it to Saturday or Sunday would be awesome regardless and no matter who the match up would be we’d be a pretty big underdog.

Well, for all intents we made it last year. That's generally acknowledged.
With that said we are in the 2nd year with a high caliber team. Will I be completely heartbroken if we lose in the first round? Probably not. But let's be real, this team is mature and experienced. With that our expectations should be higher than last year.

Love to play the Zags just to see how we match up and hopefully let the world know we have arrived. But win round one first. Would be an accomplishment.

If we make it in this year there will be no asterisk next to our name denoting that we should have made it last year. That's because there was no NCAA tournament last year. This team will be remembered as the one that broke the streak. The only people that will go, "Well actually we should have made it last year," will be the people on this board.

If we "made" it last year then there would have been a tournament, and the defending champion would not be Virginia from 2019.

sure, about 7 to 9 games in, I could envision RU making the elite 8 this year, and it was not so crazy.....suddenly we could not play well, and the three pt shot went out the window...

IF everyone came back NEXT year, and we return to early THIS year form..... we can dream about a deep run

Yeah, but we're talking about our expectations, not what everyone else is thinking. I'm not going to pretend that last year didn't happen just became they cancelled the tournament.

We made it last year. Tournament or no tournament. No need to argue though, neither one of us will change our minds.

We did not make it last year. There was no tournament. The streak still exists.

Once the streak is broken, then we can say not making the tourney is not enough.
We were a tourney team last year - I don't give a **** about whether the tourney was held or not - we all know we were in. Streak was broken for me 100%.

when was the last time RU was on CBS? I've been following the team since I knew I was going to RU Pharmacy as a senior in HS in '93, and I can't remember ever seeing them other than Bannon's '99 team as one of the teams they had cameras on during Selection Sunday.

RU will see an ACC or Big East team in Round 1 of 2 IMO. I still think RU is a 7 in a region (vs Clemson) with Nova as a 2 (they will win the BET) that could be the noon game on Saturday--good regional matchup (should RU win in 1st round).

I can’t see Clemson landing in the 10 spot unless they lose out. And even at that - they would be an 8 loss team with wins over Alabama, Florida State, Purdue, Maryland, UofL, UNC and Georgia Tech (might make the field). Again, maybe I’m wrong and the committee will follow mostly NET chalk but I highly doubt it. Clemson has a strong paper resume and it’s going to be obvious when they do the seeding.

Starting with the B1G Tournament and going into the NCAA Tournament every game is one and done if the team loses.Rutgers can't have long scoring droughts and expect to win in high pressure games.
