Big home win over sagging Wisconsin tonight. Collins doing a tremendous job for a team who is missing big man Alex Olah a key cog on the their team. This is a team with not a lot of raw talent but all buying into Collins and riding emotion giving maximum effort. Their rpi is lagging at 106 before this game but sure to move into the top 100 now. The OOC was pretty weak. 3 losses were to UNC, Maryland and Ohio State. Could this be the year. A long way to go still as they have a tough slate coming up soon after hosting Penn State. 3 games on the road of 4...Maryland, Indiana and Iowa with Michigan State at home. Can they find one win there or can they bounce back if they go 0-4. If they can finish 10-8 in league which woud put them at 22-9 overall they should be able to get a bid and the Big 10 work will slide their rpi into a better number.

No real facilities either from what I understand. Very surprising since you would think they would have a pretty nice endowment fund.

Bill Carmody had some pretty decent teams there ( not good enough for dance), but more losing seasons than winning ones. Went to the NIT the 4 seasons before his final one
I had thought he was starting to right the ship but then the wheels fell off and he lost his job after going 13-19
Collins seems to be an upgrade.
Had losing seasons his first two years, but now seems to have gotten it together and making the Wildcats look like a winning program.

Actually they just started construction on an athletic training facility. Should be open in about 18 months I believe. The cost is $250 million. Northwestern alumni are extremely loyal and generous with their donations. Their a element is over ten billion dollars.

Typo. Meant to write their endowment is over ten billion dollars.

I follow them closely as my daughter went there and when I'm out visiting have attended a few games.

Collins has been adding pieces every year but the McIntosh kid was the kind of outstanding local kid you needed there to get others to consider NW. They beat Duke on him.

They aren't shooting well at all from 3 lately. The Demps kid is in a terrible slump.

The Arena is very old and I'm not sure the new facility being built contains a basketball component but it's right on the lake and looks like it will be gorgeous.

Olah supposedly back in a week so we'll see when it comes to the Big Dance.

Look out guys. Besides Northwestern, Oregon State is 11-3.

We long-suffering know the significance of those two schools as it relates to Rutgers. It would be truly fitting if we finally inherit the throne on Selection Sunday.

Really, it was only a matter of time given the support our program has been given the last couple of decades.

Crazy both Oregon State and Northwestern didn't spend $4 million per season on a HC - Imagine that.

One is a first time coach.

The other coached at Montana

It's not simply about offering or throwing the most money at someone. It's about being smart and making informed decisions.

Collins was a great fit for NW-----grew up in Chicago------grew up around the NBA game-----played the college game at a high level-----coached at Duke.

He just fit-----understood the kind of kid he had to recruit.

But I do like the way he's changed his philosophy as his players got better.

The first year they were all defense and milking every possession on the clock. As his teams talent level has improved he's opened it up offensively.

Oregon State was pretty good last year----very improved. They have a great tradition going back to the days of Ralph Miller one of the really great coaches back in the day.

Gary Payton III was a great get for the the Beavers as well. JUCO All-American. Helps that dad went to Oregon State too. Wayne Tinkle's son is a four-star recruit in2016 and Tinkle's assistants son is a four-star as well.

Did some research. According to wikipedia, 276 different schools have gone dancing since the last time we did.

Also on the last seen since 1991 list, Louisiana Tech, Towson, and St. Francis of PA.

last year I didn't see any appreciable difference in talent between Northwestern and Rutgers. Except one team got better as the season went on while the other team went into a tailspin. They met the first game of the year in an even game that went down to the wire. One of the most ugliest games youll see it was like 52-50 or something like that. Fortunes changed. Their big Olah blossomed and he is sidelined right now. RU got a heralded recruit in Sanders but not a guy who will make a difference. RU lost its three key players and contrary to popular belief they were huge losses which made a bad team worse. Meanwhile Northwestern is humming along and look well coached

And Northwestern goes down at home to Penn State...thats just a hideous loss to have on their resume

This was a tough loss given the parity in college basketball and very little separates most teams. Monmouth has a better resume than the Wildcats. They have a lot of work to do.

Good win for the Nits----just completely outplayed NW who couldn't hit the ocean if they were standing on the Pier.

Glad about Wisconsin, someone had their pre season top twenty like last April. Wisconsin was like number 17 and I wrote they lost too many players. Looks like I got that one right because Wisky is 9-9 this year.

People like me thought the role players from last year Hayes and Koenig would step up to be stars. Both are definitely struggling and just seem to be forcing things or out of their element. It seems like they are both best as 3 and 4 options on a team.

Hayes seems like a tweener (to small to be on blocks) and doesn't have a shot this year and Koenig just lacks the extra athleticism needed to create for himself.

I wanted to see how Hayes would be as the star and not having Dekker has hurt him.
