Do any of you statistics wizards have the actual Flu deaths along with other respiratory illness deaths like lung cancer, COPD, TB, Black Lung, etc... since 2/1/20?

Yep. I heard the Bull Shark in the Rez gave that teenager Covid when it bit him. They are trying to track down the shark to put it in 14 day quarantine.

I done heard about that. That damn shark may infect a lot of folks if they don't get him quarantined soon.

I’ve heard people gripe that those with lung cancer or whatever shouldn’t count as a Covid death just because that’s what finished them off. Well what if a person with stage 4 lung cancer gets hit by an 18-wheeler and killed on the way to chemo. What does the death certificate say? MVA.

I would be interested in seeing a graph of total deaths all causes comparing the last 3-4 years vs this year.... I would bet that this year is lower...

This guy gets it! There is no way to verifiably prove that Covid 19 is the cause of death for a Mississippi State Athletics fan. The underlying conditions are far too many to isolate and say Covid pushed it over the top.

In Italy, between February 20 and March 31, 12,428 people were recorded as having died of the coronavirus. But in the same period, authorities noted 25,354 "excess deaths" compared with the average of the five previous years.
For the United States, the difference is even more striking: according to data for March, before the country was hit by the worst of the pandemic, the number of excess deaths reached 6,000—more than triple the official COVID-19 toll.
Even in Germany, widely considered by experts to have handled the outbreak better than other EU countries, 3,706 deaths more than the average were noted in March, even as the official virus toll was 2,218.
In France, by contrast, for the period from March 1 to April 27, the COVID-19 toll of 23,291 is very close to the total number—24,116—of additional deaths compared with 2019.
'Indirect effects'
Even without a standardised counting method, excess mortality data is the best indicator of how the virus has impacted different countries, said professor Yvonne Doyle, the medical director of Public Health England.
"This is a comparable measure internationally. So we would then be able to understand how we have been impacted internationally as well," she said.
But experts also caution against reading too much into the figures and jumping to conclusions about which countries have dealt with the pandemic best.
"These are statistical increases... But we cannot say what these increases are due to," said Fernando Simon, head of the emergency centre at the Spanish health ministry.

"This excess mortality is due to the crisis as a whole," agreed Michel Guillot, head of research at France's Institute of National Demographic Studies (INED).

This all deaths are being counted at Covid19 **** makes some of you people seem look like real idiots. Don't even look for the research and just use your brain. In the whole country, over the course of almost 3 months we have 100,000 deaths. Let's call it 75 days.

In 2017 the US averaged 7800 deaths per day. It was 8,000 for the months of March, April, and May. So in a normal year, that would be 75 * 8,000 or 600,000 deaths in this time frame. We currently have 1/6th of that amount listed as Covid19 deaths. So either the overall death rate has been reduced by over 80% or you are your spewing ****.

Now let's get into the weeds a bit. Are all people with Covid 19 being listed as Covid 19 Deaths? No. It's not possible. I live in a city of 200,000 people and we officially have 1 Covid19 death. It's statistically impossible that some of the other deaths did not have Covid19, they just clearly died of something else or were never tested. This is why when estimating flu deaths, the CDC uses a ratio that basically multiplies the deaths of people with actual confirmed cases of flu by 5 or 6 to get the actual count. Well, that doesn't need to happen with Covid19 because they are testing a lot more people.

More numbers... The state of Texas had 55,000+ deaths the first 3 months of the year and for an average of 30,000+ deaths per month? We only have 1500 Covid19 deaths so far. Did people quit dying all together? Or do our doctors and hospitals not know they can get an extra $2k for listing people as Covid19 deaths like they do in NY?

Or is it likely that we were not hit nearly as hard because we live in the sunbelt and our big cities are sprawling metros with everyone driving their own car instead of packing on subways and squeezing into packed elevators.

You want to blame the media for sensationalizing this whole thing, I am with you. If you want to question the percentage of people that died from complications that were on their way out soon anyways, well that's a debate... The same one we should have about the flu as well. But for the handful of goons pushing this horseshit about doctors and nurses lying about causes of death for a little extra money. Well, you are scumbags or idiots.

Overall deaths are up. 50% higher in the areas hardest hit by corona. 3x in NYC. So unless docs or nurses are smothering patients to drive up the numbers, this **** is real.

No one is saying it isn’t real. Just trying to make the point that people die. It is the only way out of this world. And they die if multiple things.

But there are ways to mitigate some types of death. We could stop driving and auto accident deaths will go down.

But we cannot stop tornadoes or hurricanes. We can only prepare , take safe precautions and hope for the best. Same with Coronavirus, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Cancer, HBP, COPD, etc... we take precautions to try and mitigate those daily killers.

But we don’t destroy 100’s of thousands of businesses and upend a booming economy to mitigate those killers. We live with the fact that people get those problems and they die from them.

Why has a major Conflict since the civil war never happened on US Soil? Because the enemy knows better. Americans have been resilient and ready to take the war to the enemy. But this. This enemy has turned too many Americans into puddles of mush, not willing to risk even getting sick for fear that not 1, not 10, not 100, but everybody is going to die from this if we don’t hide from it.

Boys and Girls, from the pictures of the beaches and lakes and outdoor gathering places this weekend, we are about to find out in a real hurry how fast this thing spreads. Do we crawl back in our cocoons or do we go on about our lives, using reasonable precautions if we are scared, or boldly going back to some sense of normalcy?

Covid 19 causes blood clots. Depending on where the clots occur, they can cause a heart attack or stroke. Another way Covid 19 kills is by so clogging the lungs that oxygen can't get into the blood stream. The heart is a muscle that needs oxygen to continue to function. If Covid 19 brings on the heart attack, that death is added to the total, as it should be. For many decades, doctors have listed on death certificates the immediate cause of death and any other condition that contributed to that immediate cause. It's not some nefarious, left-wing plot dreamed up just for this virus.

So, in your mind, anyone using reasonable precautions is scared, while folks like you, who are going back to normal full-bore, are bold? In my book, those using reasonable precautions are wise, while those rushing back to crowded anything are spoiled and self-centered. I understand that for a lot of Americans, freedom means being able to say 17 the community, I'm in this for myself, but the US I love is so much better than that.

It seems as if you are a little offended that he called you scared. My friend, the truth can hurt. Wearing masks and staying at home, at this point, with the data we have, is a little scared, especially if you are in good health. I just wish folks that share your opinion, would just accept that. My side is not selfish, it's just that we aren't scared and do not believe the fear that has been sold to us. It's as simple as that.

I think what we all can agree on, is protecting the old folks and the compromised. They shouldn't be going out and we should be protecting ourselves when around them.

That's a reasonable take. The hurricane is the best analogy. We don't shut down the beaches for 6 months when it's hurricane season. But we do evacuate when the hurricane is coming. The first Covid19 hurricane has passed, we are still in the season though.

It was very scary in the beginning, because there was little data. Now we have a lot more. It's bad for the sick and elderly. Let's protect them and move forward with incremental changes that bridge the gap to herd immunity/vaccine. The two sides fighting tooth and nail over going completely back to normal and staying in quarantine forever are both wrong. We can get out, wear a t-shirt over your mouth and nose in confined, crowded spaces and go mask free most other places and have a nice summer. Figure out how to get schools ramped up in the fall safely and have a REASONABLE plan in place IF the cases start flaring up when it gets cold again.

Yeah, the economic hit we(and the world) have taken is rough. Its a huge setback for the economy and a whole and millions of people individually.

I will not even think twice when 10 years from now, I read a study that shows even more wealth was collected at the top half of 1% due to this pandemic. Of course that will happen while millions lose businesses, jobs, and retirement.

I'm not sure where the intersection in the graph is between caution and economic loss. Clearly you think we passed that crossing long ago, based on your dramatic soapbox posts.

I can't say it was a mistake to shut this **** down back in March because if we hadn't, then perhapd those predicted charts would have played out and millions would have died in a matter of a month.

We never know what may have happened if you and others got their way and we continued to just go about our lives like nothing was different.
Perhaps we would have magically not lost untold numbers of family members. Or perhaps twice as many(or more) would be dead and we would have a rare similar to Sweden so far.
https://www.sfgate.com/science/article/Sweden-herd-immunity-experiment-backfires-covid-15289437.php

It is insulting that you say people who use 'reasonable precautions' are scared. If reasonable precaustions are used, i would argue those people in fact aren't scared, but are simply acting reasonably.

Your soapbox is like a bad version of a conservative opinion show's monologue. It hits on patriotism, misrepresents history, sets up a narrative where the viewer/reader has to pick a side of being right or wrong, and calls for action.

My God you are exhausting with your sigular issue focused myopic approach to this.

My Bru, I'm feeling you buddy!
It really isn't about how healthy you and I are though, is it?
I mean we feel great carrying the virus around. It ain't gonna bring us down, cause we know how to man up.
So what if we pass it on to some poor sap with a compromised immune system.
We ain't scared and we don't give a ****!
Rock on, my Bru-ther!
