I'm bumping this up, as I realize their site was down some this weekend. I was able to meet Nolan and his family at Tulsa during the big 12 tournament. He was one of my favorites, but I didn't know most of this history behind the scenes. After a weekend of disappointing results, I think it's important to remember that there's a lot more to being an OSU wrestler, than just the performances on the mat. These guys make incredible sacrifices and learn life lessons that will guide them in the future.
In St. Louis last year at Nationals, we ended up in line at a restaurant behind a couple of elderly ladies from Iowa. One of the ladies started talking to us, told us she really liked the OSU program. She offered up that her sons were coaches for Iowa. I asked her if they worked part time as trolls down by the bridge..... : ) She said she loved John Smith, and that she would send anyone's kids to wrestle for him. I think I feel the same way. Just a little perspective to think about after a frustrating weekend.
