My second grader is supposed to start on Thursday, we’ll see after today. He’s actually ready to go back and his mom and I certainly are.

Home schooling last spring certainly didn’t work with him. We couldn’t get him to do his homework packets nightly, and would become a fiasco on Sunday night making him to do 5 days of work at one sitting. Can feel my blood pressure increasing as I think about it.

Internet is another problem with distant/virtual schooling. While making gigantic leaps the last few years, it’s still very unreliable in MS. Last semester, he had a Zoom meeting once a week, mainly just to visit with friends and teacher. Most of the feeds of the kids in his class would freeze up at some point during the one hour meeting. Couldn’t imagine actually being in a class and only catching bits and pieces of the class, then being held accountable for what they may or may not have heard.

Fr the record I have two kids in daycare and they never stopped going. Not one person has gotten sick the last five months

Same with us. I got one that was in daycare when this started and one that was in kindergarten when schools shut down. The daycare opened up to the kids who were part of the after school. So, there have been normal daycare kids and after school kids in my daycare since March. No kids have tested positive. Only one employee has.

For anybody doubting that MS kids are about to be virtual only until Christmas... Remember back in March when they were going to be out just a couple of weeks?

You folks thinking everything should be as normal are the reason the numbers are spiking.

How can you even trust the numbers?

Serious question. What is the end game? Do we just sit in our house the rest of our lives.

Schools have given the option for distance learning. If you're concerned, there is your option, but don't punish me or my kids because you're scared. I'm tired of people like you telling me I'm the reason for cases spiking. I wear that stupid mask when I go out in public and have been working from home since March. But enough is enough.

Cut that “glass more than half full” talk out

Why are you trying to give an example of situations very similar to schools that hasn’t ended in death for most of the children and their parents?

I’m assuming these children in daycare are from homes where both parents are working, thus not sheltering at home. This would mean these children are being exposed to a whole lot of people through their parent co-workers and the parents are in turn exposed to large amounts of people through their children. How are they not dead? Maybe interacting with others has actually strengthened their immune system? Maybe sheltering in place actually weekend some people’s immune system and then made things more dangerous when they had to come out of their house? Maybe living in fear is having negative impacts on people’s health?

Contrary to popular belief, MS does not have wide spread internet availability

those kids have virtual options right now and grandma can stay home with them

If not for a piece of crap hot spot with AT&T I wouldn't have anything and it is hit or miss. And my wife is a teacher so if they have to do anything from home, forget it.
That whole "bring internet to rural MS thing" has been a load of crap for us. Our elec co-op has a plan laid out, and we are not even in their 2 year out plan.
