No, he didn’t and he looked fine. Never took his warmups off. Surprised and a little disappointed in that. Could be Coach just liked the rotation that he was using with success. IDK...

Minutes are earned and not given based on getting a scholarship and wearing a uniform.
I agree with this. No need to take minutes away from he other bigs if the minutes aren’t earned.
This is true but in light of the praise Coach put on Johnson earlier, you would think he’d get some minutes. Particularly with Doucoure in foul trouble. Also, depends on whether or not Johnson played in the two previous scrimmages and how he performed in those.
Minutes are certainly earned.
It is one game so I am keeping a lot of thoughts to myself. City college was 17-10 last year. Rutgers should obviously win by 15-20 points.
St Johns was a very good team offensively. Ponds looks like he will definitely get a shot at the NBA. Defensively, they were very physical, but lacked subtleties.

We only used Doucoure for 6 minutes, Sa for 12 and Doorson for 6. That is only 24 minutes total. For 16 minutes we had Freeman and Omoruyi or Thiam as our only bigs with no true center.
Pikiell knew he could play small given St Johns lack of size.

The game may not count, but I think Pike understood the value of this game and didn’t play the lower end guys accordingly. The idea isn’t to get everyone minutes - that is what the scrub teams are for. Playing the best players yesterday and coming from behind to win against good competition will be far more important to the team’s psyche than getting 2mpgers an extra few touches. Especially because closing out was a concern last year.
The game was played just like a regular season game by both teams. No difference at all.

Four quick fouls made that less likely and by the time the end of the game came the team was rolling. I'm sure he'll get more time in the future.
Agree here -- I think Pike wanted to use this game as a real dress rehearsal, not just an opportunity to get the deep bench guys playing time. Moreover, SJU's strength was it's guard play, so Pike went with a smaller, more athletic lineup. I'm sure we'll see Johnson in the OOC games.
THIS. Both coaches treated this game as a real game. The intensity was high and both wanted to win the game. It's a rarity to get a test like this at this time of year. As much as I wanted to see Peter Kiss as well; he can't play this year so I'm glad that we got more of a true test. It was a real game. Not sure what happened with Myles? Maybe he's not ready yet.
This was not a dress rehearsal as far as playing time as much as it was matching up against a particular opponent.......it was more of matching up on how quick St. John's played offense and the game was too fast for our bigs and too fast for their bigs as well.
Ponds, Lovett, Sanders and Williams were the focal points of the game on both ends of the court at the guard position and other guards like Geo Baker and the reserve guards also were making plays on both ends of the court......Justin Simon (St. Johns forward and transfer from Arizona), is a quality big man that can drive and score.
Doucoure, Doorson and Myles Johnson aren't built for a lineup against this type of quickness.....I think the roster is being constructed to survive 20+ B1G conference games down the road, where the majority of the conference aren't going to have lightning quick guards like St. John's showed yesterday.
Doucoure is the fastest and most mobile of the bigs we he have now and then you'd have Doorson and Myles Johnson to match up against a more traditional B1G lineup. That's why I was sweating out the details on landing a Shaq Carter, you absolutely need a defensive presence that can switch on defense and try to get to the rim to block a couple of those layups that Lovett and Ponds were getting off pick and rolls....they weren't getting much picks to help them, they were just turning the corner on our defense and we needed to be quicker to respond to that type of speed.
Johnson will be a contributor down the road and needs more time to develop, but he has things you can't teach on offense....he's a willing/good passer and can understand angles and how to position himself to make plays...in a slower paced game, he'll help RU...

Good points. I may have little company on this, but I still think if he can get and stay healthy Doorson will be a meaningful contributor especially in Big 10 play.
Great summation Hawk. The SJU guards were super quick. Ponds is amazing. By the way, It never felt like an exhibition to me. Both teams played to win.
The scrimmage against St.Johns was excellent preparation for B1G competition except for the size of league opponents.Pikiell coached the game like it was a regular season game where winning matters.
People are acting like this was a game against some supbar opponent.
It was a game for Pikiell to win, gain recruits from, and get momentum. This wasn't just a play around game.
There was a statement to be made. In the Metropolitan area, Pikiell wants recruits to know he can take them to the next level. More so than St Johns can.
Coach told us tonight that he felt bad that he couldn't play, but he didn't fit with the small frontcourt in a game he was coaching to win.
Beyond this board, who cares if Johnson and Bullock played?
