They've only won 20 games in the last 11 seasons. They haven't had a pulse since.....

Even factoring in Mangino's magical 12 win season and his other middling seasons, the program has averaged 3.6 wins per season this century. They are that bad even with the few good years factored.

Their football program has been nothing to even acknowledge for 20 of the 21 seasons this century.
It's been 12 seasons since they went to a bowl game.

Long has only been their AD since '18.
Point of the above is that he couldn't have been fired for how bad the KU football team is under his tenure. Being fired(parting ways) for not finding out that a football coach you hired kissed a student years ago at another school is pretty rough. How is that something you can be expected to uncover in a vetting process?

Maybe my expectations are too low and such a thing should be discovered.

Most of it- no.
They did win 2 west division championships in a row and finished 12th each year. Those are great seasons and are what I referred to in the earlier post.

LSU was terrible in the 90s. They didn't even play in the SEC championship game in the 90s. They hired saban in 99 and his first season at LSU was 2000. I'm not surprised in your lack of factual information you argue. Pretty much par for your course...

I said they weren't great for most of the decade. They were great for a couple years in the decade and that's what I was referring to earlier.
If you don't feel that winning the west 2 years in a row and finishing 12th in the country both times is 'great', then ok that's cool.
They weren't FSU or Nebraska level, but that's a level I would call incredible and historical.

This is well past the point though. Eliminate the 90s from my comment, the point still stands- Miles won due to his coaches, his system, and his recruits.
Maybe comment on that instead of nitpicking about how we disagree on an unimportant opinion?

Agreed. Was mostly looking for an excuse for a Mangino tribute. I don't know the ins and outs of vetting someone in that type of role or what constitutes due diligence, but it seems to me that if the kiss and texts were that easy to find, they would've come out in the news years ago. I read what Long said he did for the Miles background check and it sounded pretty standard and reasonable

90% of winning in college football is recruiting

You dismiss what Miles accomplished and claim its all due to Saban who was gone for many years. I take issue with your reasoning for why Miles doesnt deserve credit. Its a completely unprovable claim- that he only had success because Saban increased payments to recruits over a decade earlier. Like...what? Thats so 17ing absurd.
Football in 2000(when Saban came to LSU) vs football in 2011(When Miles led LSU to the NC game) was considerably different.

Serious question- at what point does a coach ever win on their own after following a successful coach? Using your logic, it seems like they never win on their own. They can have their own offense and defense structures, they can have their own coaching staff, they can have their own recruits who were at oldest 10 when Saban started at LSU, but apparently that success isnt due to Miles.
Dumb.

Give me the 4 and 5 star athletes and I'll coach 'em up and whip your 3 stars. It really comes down to winning 2 or 3 games during the regular season where you play other 4 and 5 star teams. After all, it is the athletes on the field moving the ball. Saban is a better coach than Les Miles no doubt. Saban knows what it takes to win and has cornered the market. Les Miles would fail at MSU because he wouldn't have the talent. He is a good not great coach.
