No help from Nebraska

After leading most of the way, Nebraska falls to Iowa by 8 looks like the best we can hope for is a 3rd place finish. We still need Ohio St. to lose. They still have games against both Nebraska and Iowa.

Ohio State remaining schedule:

2/14 Sat at Illinois
2/17 Tue Purdue
2/21 Sat Iowa
2/26 Thur at Penn State
3/1 Sun Nebraska

Nebraska has back to back to back losses
Rutgers, Maryland, Iowa
May drop out of top 25

It may be better for Rutgers if Iowa wins vs. Ohio State
Most likely scenario if that happens:
Iowa gets the two seed but Rutgers gets the three
(assuming we don't get upset ourselves)
Ohio State then below us.
If we end up tied for third with Ohio State,
as the standings now are,
we drop to the four seed as head-to-head is the first tie breaker

Iowa also has the tie breaker vs. Rutgers
and they have a two game lead in the standings.
Iowa would need to lose three of their remaining five games and
Rutgers would need to win all five remaining in order for us to get the two seed
That is not likely happening
Iowa has Indiana, at Minnesota, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Minnesota

And the difference between 2 and 3 seed is much less than the difference from 3 to 4
Want the 3 seed to avoid a potential Maryland game until the final.
Also gives you 3 vs. 6 instead of 4 vs. 5.
Want at least a 4 seed to get the byes
Need to win out.
In watching the Big Ten standings we need to be more concerned with
Ohio State at 9-4, Minnesota at 8-5, and Northwestern at 8-5
And we play at Northwestern Thur. 2/26

Exactly, anything to avoid a four seed. getting the two seed will be difficult and we need lots of help, but that could mean that Iowa loses to OS. The two seed does not have a big advantage over three. Of course, when the final seeds take over the edge will go to whomever has to face a hot team in the quarters.

Absolutely - this is what I was attempting to convey in my original post. 3rd place works for all the reason stated by motor.

We still need OSU to lose and we need to win out (not unrealistic-given our remaining schedule). I like the fact that OSU still has Iowa and Nebraska left on their schedule.

The one game we have left that could be a problem is Northwestern away. They are 4-2 at home but they are an up and down team having lost to Michigan (at home) and to Penn State.

Watched the end of the Nebraska/Iowa game, and the last 90 seconds or so must have been excruciating for Husker fans. Cut it to one.... then the block on the drive to the basket, and the three the other direction, then two missed FTs.... game went from a 1 point deficit to a 6 point deficit in the blink of an eye.

I'm thinking three. 3. Tres. Troi. Drei. That's the THREE spot. Clear to Maryland in the tournament and then hope the turtles are tired.
