Went to take a look at the NJ top 25 players. Looks like the coaches are doing a good job recruiting this year but getting shut out of NJ top 25. Hurt my feelings seeing 2 top NJ corners going elsewhere. Don't they know Rutgers is an NFL DB factory? I guess they got a couple good ones last year but the state of Rutgers needs to include NJ..I'm guessing top players are more expensive up north? Also two big time defensive lineman, when Rutgers stops losing these types dl prospects to OSU Michigan and the sec. They'll be ready to compete for national championships..

Just remember recruits are everywhere. Not just in NJ

The best NJ recruits are getting paid big bucks. We’ve got a shot at a few. But Georgia and North Carolina have emerged as big recruiting areas for us. At the end of the day, we will end up with a good class because recruiting is Schiano’s forte.

It’s interesting, from a quality standpoint there seems to be greater density of talent in Georgia and to a lesser degree North Carolina, Fla. is a given. In recent years the NJ “national recruits “have tended to not live up to their hype. wondering if most NIL goes away if your not on the 2 deep in year two.

RU got a lot of its best players from NY.
A fair number of guys like to leave their state and stompin grounds.
Some guys are advised to get away from home.
On game day its hard to compete with PSU, Michigan, Ohio and such.

Coach Erickson of Miami fame used to say that top players from good programs have already been coached up a lot. Getting underrated guys from smaller programs can have more upside

2006 team was full of low rated guys, and RUs top 10 secondary was mostly 2* guys from 20 minutes around Tappan Zee. Plus a lot of the top * guys want to be treated like kings, and delicate egos like that are not GS material

Greg is not offering HS recruits that don't have mutual interest. Sometimes that's due to NIL, sometimes that's due to players wanting to leave the state like many of their non-athlete classmates do for college and sometimes they may not fit the FTC culture.

On the plus side, Greg and the staff are going up and down the East Coast finding great talent to play here. Look at all the new areas they are bringing players in from - GA, NC, VA, MI, WI, IL, OH. The staff have done an amazing job opening up new pipelines.

This
Recruits from NJ are not what they used to be back in the day. A lot of front-runners. Most think they have arrived and not put in the work.

I do like the way the DT they signed out of Georgia looks on YouTube...those are the type of dl that you can turn into a monster. Big, strong, athletic. I just always thought the big guys like that down south tend to go to sec schools. Took a look at the Georgia recruit rankings and they have like four 5 stars lol. The kid coming to Rutgers was ranked in the 30s. Probably better to focus on kids like that, they might be under appreciated in the south. While the top defensive tackle in new jersey might be a little over appreciated. I'm just a homer, I always root for Jersey guys, sucks when you watch them at Ohio State. But Rutgers has signed multiple exciting prospects the last year or 2. Alot of speed, makes you not even remember trying to fence the garden lol.. As long as the keep bringing in the sub 11 second 100 meter skill players and keep bringing in and developing defensive and offensive lineman. One day the big time QB will come and everything will be in place . *Fingers crossed*

I dont see this as an issue at all. If there is mutual interest, the NJ kids can come. If not, GS 2.0 will find someone just as good (or better) out of state.

A real local issue is getting the fans in NJ to show up for the games and pack the stadium.

The OP’s post can be contrasted to the Rivals RU podcast where Mike and Richie are raving about how great the 2026 recruiting class is shaping up. Richie has been categorically stating this is RU’s best class of the Schiano Part Deaux era. In my mind, that makes the 2026 class looking like the best class since 2011?

2012 was the big year - Hamilton, Caroo, Muller, Denman, Lambert, etc.

The OP was discussing the talent in New Jersey for 2026 and how Rutgers has been unable to secure commitments from the top players.

2012 was more top-heavy, while the 2026 class has more depth.

Beaced so happy that you are part of this Rutgers board . Always an inspiration to many here. As a guy now mid 70’s I would love to see more Rutgers wins going forward . Hope you are well and continue to inspire us all.

That is exactly what the plan is or at least it appears to be Schiano’s new direction. I remember the years we had 30 +Florida players or so it seemed. It will not be easy to win 8-9 or more with the schedule we however I still believe 7 -8 could be had if we stay healthy and get the D to be solid against the run.

Lol that's why I said when all those things I mentioned happen or continue to happen, Rutgers will be ready to compete for a national championship. You replied with something like "can we win the conference first"... Which confused me because if you win the big ten you go on to compete for a national championship. Now you're saying "we haven't won the big ten" I mean duh lol...I guess you're just trying to say that you don't think the team is close to winning the big ten, which I agree with. Was just trying to end my statements in the thread with a positive outlook despite not getting the top Jersey guys and under the radar QB recruits. The guys Rutgers is getting can be molded and be ready to contribute when the big time QB recruit is finally brought in the fold...
