I think the bottom line is that we played what should’ve been a tournament team today, and Memphis might still be playing if they had just made it in the field.

We were overmatched from the start, but there should be plenty of reason to be excited about next season as long as we don’t inexplicably lose key pieces that we have no business losing. Ado’s likely gone, and I’m sure we’ll lose a guy or two that weren’t getting minutes, but Howland has to keep the rest of the core together. You just can’t recruit where he’s recruiting in the conference while then dealing with mass turnover every year

Anyone else see that classless Memphis player #11 cuss at one of our players and hold up an L in post game. If anyone has a video. Classless university and karma will get them. #HAILSTATE

Maybe they just have bad attitudes because Northern Miss. gets more coverage in their local media than they do. Seriously, I used to work there as an IT contractor, and I came to hate Memphis (the city, not the school) because of that. And it was like MSU didn't even exist.

If you believe they won the second half by defense you must have been watching a different game than me.

State's two best scoring options got shut down. Memphis left Matthews alone and he scored 19 points unexpectedly. If Matthews doesn't have a career day shooting and Smith doesn't come in and make some shots, we lose this game by 30. If Memphis doesn't go into a bad offensive stretch where they only shoot 28% from the field in the first half, we lose this game by 30. We were never in this game, even when the score was tied at halftime, because of their defense. You saw immediately in the second half when they started running their offense and taking good shots, they opened up a big lead. They were able to do that because they were getting stops on the defensive end. We had no answer.

Memphis changes defense almost every four minute segment of the game. Because they stopped picking up full court didn't mean they lost their defense intensity. It meant they were giving a different look. And of course when they went back to it in the second half, they were effective with it aGAIN.

You should invest in a Basketball for Dummies book.

We have to come up with an offense predicated on ball movement, and not an offense that amounts to your guards creating shots off the dribble. Until we do that, we're going to keep seeing more of the same.

Yep. We can’t continue to have Molinar or Stewart try to dribble between or around defenders for 15 seconds of the shot clock and then dribble it off their foot. We also saw that neither can create their own shot against a legit defense. I like iverson’s shot, but he’s got to be set up. The dribble and pass around the 3 point line behind high screens is not creative enough.

And don’t look now, but Stewart is suddenly showing up as an early 2nd round pick on some draft boards. I can’t imagine that anyone would convince him that it’s time to go, but Jiminy Christmas this gets old

I expected he and Molinar to both get some looks. They definitely need to come back next year, but with the G-league, it's more financially viable for these guys to start earning a paycheck if somebody is willing to give them one.

I think Molinar has a better chance that Stewart at the next level. Stewart is a fine midrange shooter and will probably be a decent to good spot up shooter but he is really going to have to work on being able to create his own shot against good defenders.

Stewart has been projected top of the 2nd round for awhile now. It's not a new projection.

Jealous of what? Stansbury was still coaching here when Nolan got fired. Probably had a little to do with it too.

Yeah, it won't happen with this coach. But he's gotten us competitive and if rumors are to be believed, may be retiring soon. If we make a good hire, big if with Cohen, we could be a pretty good basketball school again.
