I’ve been ridiculed for saying Nebraska doesn’t have some of the NIL resources of some other schools.
Most of those schools I understand having that kind of money and resources. It was Indiana that stood out as the one that doesn't belong in that group.

All it takes is a couple of die hard successful boosters to fill the coffers. We have one for NIL and we suck millions for facilities and buyouts from that family.

These are collectives. Do you honestly believe Indiana and Mich State are oitfunding Phil Knight by 30%? They aren't. These numbers do not include NIL paid to players by an individual or business. Only collective funding.

This is hard to believe with Oregon being so low.
I'm not sure Phil Knight wants snoopers to know what he's paying players. Some of it could be reporting methods. NU wants to inflate their numbers paid to players as much as they can to elevate our status with transfers and recruits. Oregon doesn't have to advertise.

That’s kind of my point. If that is the case this is false data

I have no doubt that some of the numbers of the top 20 are fairly accurate. I don't think NIL is being over reported by most schools. I think it's likely that some schools including Oregon are under reported.

The whole NIL and portal thing is totally out of control. It needs some kind of rules, contracts and structure. You can't have one year mega deals for players only to move from school to school every year. Fvcking crazy what CFB has become.

Winning the NIL story in the media is the same as winning the off-season. It’s what goes on behind closed doors that matters.

It’s so funny how the power has evened out. On one hand, you could sign a guy to a three year deal for wearing your uniform. On the other hand, you could want that guy to leave on the next train out of town after one year. Everyone wants commitment without commitment.

I mean maybe. Didn’t knight publicly state at some point Oregon had essentially an open check for nil funding? That is why a list like this has to be taken with a grain of salt.

They talked on BRWU last night about how NU outbid some heavy hitters to sway Cortez Mills N and keep Jeremiah Jones N. Maybe they are using more money to go big N the portal? Honestly, it's fvcking exhausting anymore.

Open checkbook doesn't mean "I'm going to tell you what I'm paying the players who are transferring in". Maybe he's giving them stock. How do you monetize making a shoe for them and giving them proceeds from sales of that shoe?

I agree. It’s hard to follow anymore. Literally going to have to learn new players every year. Maybe I’m old. But it is taking the fun out of supporting the team.

Moneyball. Who can assemble the highest priced team of mercenaries every year to buy a title.

It is sickening. It actually disgust me that this is part of college athletics now.

I guess they should get off my lawn too!

All I’m saying if inflating or deflating numbers are true. That takes all the validity out of this reported list. This list means about as much as preseason rankings do.

I got no problem with kids getting paid. But if they want to make it like the NFL, make them sign a contract and honor the deal.

Indiana has some monster Billionaire allums if they choose to donate. Mark Cuban for one has given to them I know. John Mellancamp (not an alum but big donor) is another

Another part of the whole deal is sleazy agents trying to line their own pockets by telling a HS kid where to go and what he can make. They don't care about the athlete or have his best interests in mind.

I don't have a problem with kids getting paid a REASONABLE amount of money. What we have now is not reasonable. I agree that if this is the direction we are going to go. Then these players have to be held accountable with a contract and teams should have a salary cap just like the NFL.

Agreed. HS kids haven't done **** in CFB. Earn it. Then name your price.

Most of these numbers are pretty made up but it makes for good clicks.

On a SUPER small scale I can give you an example. I have a modest budget for the HS sport that I coach. But I happen to have a "booster" for lack of a better word, that covers any and all costs that we have each season.

Now, if I have a "booster" that does that you can imagine what those crazy CFB boosters are donating. Amazing.

I don't believe these numbers. Even if they are somehow accurate, I believe it would be more likely that the schools are setting up a fund for an NIL collective, kind of like an endowment fund, not that these are annual payouts.

NIL of significance needs to come with a contract, i.e. $2M for QB but it is paid over a 3 year period. And it needs to be performance based and back loaded, so if they leave they don't get a big bag and just walk.
