Nick Saban 1st season in 2007 at Alabama went 7-6, in 2008 he went 12-2, in 2009 he 14-0 and etc. So lets give time to Scott and see if he can turn it around like Nick Saban did at Alabama. They were a dumpster fire before he took over and now he's a legend.

Did he do it with recruitings classes that were ranked in the 20's?

Well, I don't see a 7-6 record this year for the Huskers. But, as Michael Corleone said to his dad, "we'll get there Pop, we'll get there."

All of Alabama's losses in 2007 were by 7 points or less. They also beat two ranked teams. We're a long ways away from 2007 Alabama.

Rivals shows the following rankings for Alabama in:

2004 - 15th
2005 - 18th
2006 - 11th
2007 - 10th

Plenty of talent for a good coach to have a winning record right away in the first season, in season #2, the stampede began.

So what is your point? Since Nebraska is starting in a worse spot and it's a bigger mountain to climb, we should just pack it in? I think the OP's point is valid, even a great coach like Saban, inheriting a roster full of top 10 classes, struggled in the first year, even losing to Louisiana-Monroe at home. We are starting from a worse spot and it will take longer, but this thing can be turned around.

Better give it time. I thought this was an 8 win season with a possible 9 if favorable bounces came along.

Nebraska may not compete for the west for another 2 or 3 years.

Agreed, these comparisons to Bama should not be made. Frost didn’t inherit the roster that Saban did and Nebraska isn’t the recruiting hotbed Alabama is. If we are going to compare to other programs we should probably look at Washington or Clemson.

Barry Alvarez and Kirk Ferentz - major bowl games (Rose and Orange) in year 4.
Both just one win their first season.

Clemson?? Dabo won 9 games his first year then 7 his second. He has won at least 10 games 7 consecutive years starting in year 3.

I’m guessing we don’t come close to the success
Clemson has had with Dabo

You think Frost has us in the playoff in year 3 like Peterson at Washington?

Not comparing coaches to coaches. My point is that Washington hit rock bottom 10 years ago and look at them now. Clemson wasn’t always great either.

This is a new age where winning a conference championship is more challenging than the former Big 8. It’s a tough road to the top and probably just as tough to stay at the top.

Agreed ... and when they got the coaching hire correct things turned around pretty quickly
