Let’s say what Matt said is fact? Do you think KY lands Stevens or Donavan and if not would you like the Holtmann hire?

Matt Jones today said he had some knowledge of who Ky would target if CAL left today. The first 2 calls are to Brad Stevens and Billy Donavan. If neither was interested then Chris Holtmann would get the job. Thoughts? Does that change anyones opinion on getting rid of CAL.
Cal has a $52 million buyout if he doesn't leave on his own. If you want him gone you better hope he takes an NBA job or something.

Chris Holtmann?

You do realize his *** has clearly been put on the hot seat now at Ohio State since he's yet to take them to a Sweet 16 in his first 5 years at Ohio State.

I was in Columbus this past weekend after they lost and that's all the media was talking about. They claim next season is Sweet 16 or out the door for him.

Would he really be a step up from Calipari?

Almost any coach outside of Donovan or Stevens is a step down

What the hell has Chris Holtmann done to warrant ANY consideration whatsoever? Is it because he's from KY? LOL He has done nothing at OSU.

To be fair Holtmann is at a football school and his team this season was ravaged by injuries. His recruiting isn’t to bad. I not saying he would be a home run or a bust but if Cal were to leave he may end up KYs next Coach.

don't think Stevens of Donovan would come back to college
most of the better college coaches are pretty set where they are
Arizona took a gamble with Gonzaga's assistant & it looks like that was a good choice
UK would never do that
What is needed is a young, creative basketball mind, that wants to succeed at the highest level
surely someone fits that description

I would be safe to say that hiring a guy from a school where his *** is clearly on the hot seat would NOT be considered a home run hire.

I'll offer up Fran McCaffery from my hometown Hawkeyes and will even move him to Lexington myself.

Hard to step too much further down from what cal is giving us currently. Implying cal is 3rd best coach in the country or close to it is laughable. If the coaching pool is that damn bad there is a big time need for new blood in the ranks everywhere.
Well Barnes beat him 2 out of 3 so that's one, right? And can we count all 4 coaches who make the Final Four this year? And then there's Shaheen Holloway...so that's 5...I bet we could come up with at LEAST a dozen.

I’m ok with CH. OSU is all football. Give him the resources if UK and he would be very good.

At least we would have some hope for awhile while I have none of now.

I’m certain that candidates are already contacting Mitch, just begging to be next in line. I mean when the fans turn, and exert enough pressure to potentially run off a HOF coach, other coaches are thinking, “Awww, yeah! I want some of THAT sweet action. Where do I sign?”

People complain about Cal making $9m a year.
Holtmann made almost as much at one point...hard to know now as I think a lot of Big Ten coaches to COVID pay cuts.

2019 he was third highest paid coach in country.

Who did we hire in 2009 after we ran off BCG?

And even then it might be. No one was as good as Cal at his zenith of recruiting.

Donavan and Stevens are really the only two good choices recruiting wise. Kids want coaches who can have good contacts at the next level. Both Stevens and Donavan now do.

Lloyd is impressive but again is it beginner’s fortune or is he the real deal. Have to wait until next year to really see. Taking a shot on a hot new coach is always a gamble as we’ve learned.

Holtman would be a massive disappointment and be a massive failure here. People will be longing for 1 title and 4 final fours in 13 seasons after 3-5 seasons of that IMO. Cal needs to be replaced, but it has to be by a right type of hire.
Holtmann just can’t seem to win the big ones consistently . Good coach otherwise, but yeah, don’t think he’d do overly well here.
