In all seriousness, why not Mike Price?

How much money do they spend on their coach?
On their entire coaching staff?
On their players?
Support staff, facilities, marketing, etc?
And they fire a guy for spending a few thousand at a titty bar?

Saban had that place a well oiled machine, even with the staff turnover(going to new HC jobs) yet kept it going. He is just a different animal and demands greatness and if you can't deal with it, BYE. That being said, he was getting to end of his rope with changes in NCAA/NIL. Chose the right time to leave, but left a large void and expectations that will be hard to match.

I could see Bama biting the bullet and going after Urban Meyers or a Dan Lanning from Oregon. At any rate, they're likely gonna bring in someone whose already proven to coach at a high level.

Bama had a great run because they were buying players at a rate no one had ever seen before.

Once that changed and all schools could buy players we are seeing what has happened.

It is like when there is one private HS in the area or on good Class A school in the area and they dominate. Then another school opens and all of a sudden, that school that was killing everyone starts to lose some kids to the new schools.

I agree they are going to try to do that, but it still might not work out. They could really want Lanning, but Alabama isn’t going to out-bid Phil Knight, and Lanning’s chances to win a championship are just as good where he’s at.

Let’s say they get Urban Meyer. He would bring back Saban’s dominance! Not so fast, my friend. Urban’s success was pre NIL and unlimited transfers. He’s also older now, has had multiple multi-year stints in the media, and may not be hungry enough to recruit and manage everything. He may not want his legacy to be compromised by comparisons to Saban, and not take the job.

I would also say that the expanded playoffs places more coaching jobs in the top tier. The B1G and SEC can plan on their top 4 making the CFP. There’s around 10 places where an elite coach could expect as many CFP appearances as he could at Alabama. It comes down to NIL and expectations. Others have the same or better NIL and less expectations.
