Is it possible he was actually close enough to play last week and, had we been playing Iowa, would have been in the game. But they thought we had Maryland handled so kept him out to give him an extra week?

I wouldn't say the 2 deep "means nothing". The fact Kent and Gold are not listed is certainly something. We know they are both out. Newsome being listed shows that there is a possibility that he might play. Take it for what it's worth.

Any word on Gold? Obvious season-enders are usually disclosed more quickly than the 1, 3 or 6 week variety of injury. Gold’s body language and facial expressions were not encouraging in terms of a prompt return.
