Now that Ms. Hollivay has the blocks records, do you think the coaching staff will try to direct her focus toward rebounding? If you get a block, your team does not automatically gain possession. If you get a rebound, your team has possession. Sorry if this did not need a new thread.

If Rachael does not block the shot & the ball goes in the hoop, there is no rebound to get!

I'm proud of Rachael being # 8 in the top ten of blocks per game this season.
Being able to block shots like Hollivay does causes a lot of players to try and alter their shots in an effort to keep Rachael get a piece of it.
That helps RU and is a vital part of the defense.

I spent way too long trying to find a statistical article I read within the last year or two, perhaps on swishappeal.com, about the value of blocks to a team. The gist of the article, as I recall, was that a block was not as valuable as one would think. I did find an old article (2003) on blocks in the NBA. The team making the block got possession 57% of the time.

Also, one can only get a block on the defensive end; rebounds are available on offense and defense.
