The bowl revenue is from TV revenue. It's gonna be there no matter where the games are played.

The TV revenue will be there regardless, the ticket revenue will be there regardless, but there are a lot of sponsors that put up big money that aren't advertised on TV. Businesses put up money to sponsor things not on TV, and lots of businesses put up 5 figures for not much else than some access and their name in small print somewhere. Of course they get tickets with all that stuff, so maybe it ends up not being as significant after you account for that.

It's good for the top 4 teams to have an advantage over the other 8. They earned it with their regular seasons, and we want the regular season to mean a lot.

If the 7 or 10, etc., seed wants to be national champion, they theoretically can do it, but they need to go above and beyond after the lesser regular season they would've had.

Then we need to start giving National Seeds in baseball byes and #1 seeds in the NCAA basketball tournament byes. In my view, all the top 4 seeds in CFB have earned is the chance to start against the weakest competition just like in every other NCAA tournament. They haven't earned byes.

The more I think about, I agree with you, as long as it is 8 teams. If we go 12, I like the idea of someone earning an advantage due to the regular season.

Believe me, they have enough of an advantage with the current scholarship situation.

At least they're only going to 12 and not 16. I'd still rather have 8, but overall I think 12 is better than 4.

Anything more than 4 is better than 4 given CFB is so overall non-competitive but I think 8 would have been the right number. 16 is better than 12 though and would have actually given us a decent chance to make it every now and again.

Then, in order to also preserve the regular season, we need to cap this thing at 8 teams. There are more D2 and D3 teams so that justifies a 16 team playoff. I don't think you need that many in D1.

Marginalizing the absolute hell out of a regular season they’ve already marginalized the hell out of. The beauty of cfb was always the margin for error to win titles. Now everyone gets a mulligan or two.

No doubt the golden era of CFB is gone, and I don't think most folks will ever admit or even understand what we threw away.

That being said, I thought that 4 was a good number, but it has just not worked. There is no going back, but the current state does not seem tenable either. I like this proposal, and think it is especially good for teams like State, whose whole season now doesn't come down to whether we can beat Bama.
