NET Rankings released today. Heels start the season #13- the highest ranked ACC team. One of just 2 ACC teams ranked in the Top 20(Louisville who we play in less than 2 weeks)

As of right now, just 5 Q1 opportunities in ACC play. The ACC is bad, bad in the initial ratings which doesn’t bode well for 3-4 hosts like previous years. I think the ACC gets just 2 this year of right now.

How bad has the ACC been? The conference only has a combined 7 Q1 & Q2 wins- and we have 2 of them.

43 non-P4 teams are ahead of GT, BC, SMU, and Pitt in the rankings.

In Charlie Creme's latest bracketology, he has 9 ACC teams in the field, but we are the only host. Virginia and VT are both on the last 4 in list as 11 seeds. Other ACC seeds are:

9 dook
6 Louisville
7 Stanford
7 wolpfack
6 ND
10 Cal

Of course, a lot can change over the next 3+ months.

Absolutely. I think the next 3 weeks are arguably more important than the 3+ months for the conference as a whole. Have to put up a good showing in the ACC-SEC Challenge and end conference play with quality wins and little to no eye opening losses by teams. It does nothing in terms of quality wins in conference play if the ACC ends up with only 3 teams in the NET Top 30.

Dook will miss it entirely, and no way the fack hosts this year in their small gym. What is Wes going to doing without those 'necks on his side? UNC will rise to the top in March! GDTBATH

Smh - LSU #1 without a ranked team
or without a NET 300 opponent I believe. We have several lower opponents after Texas. Teams are starting to run it up even more, leave starters in longer, and avoid playing walk-ons last few minutes in blowouts. Playing the metrics.

LSU so far has an all airport team.

They look all world but they have not played anyone any good yet.

I guess they are saving up for the SEC.

Here are WBB Quadrants criteria that differ from MBB:

Quad 1: Home 1-25, Neutral 1-35, Away 1-45
Quad 2: Home 26-55, Neutral 36-65, Away 46-80
Quad 3: Home 56-90, Neutral 66-105, Away 81-130
Quad 4: Home 91+, Neutral 106+, Away 131+

Carolina and Louisville are the only definite Q1 opportunities for ALL ACC teams in home games. Here is how all ACC games would be based on the quadrant system:

Home Opportunities:
Quad 1: Carolina, Louisville, Stanford (by 3 spots)
Quad 2: ND, UVA, State, Cuse, Clem, Miami, Duke (fringe), VT (fringe)
Quad 3: Cal, FSU
Quad 4: WF, GT, BC, SMU, Pitt

Away Opportunities:
Quad 1: Carolina, Louisville, Stanford, ND, UVA, State (fringe), Cuse (fringe) Clem (fringe)
Quad 2: Miami, Duke, VT, Cal,
Quad 3: FSU, WF, GT
Quad 4: BC, SMU, Pitt

The ACC needs a good showing tonight and tomorrow- but I that does not keep me from wishing the woLfpack and Dookies to lose by 40 points.

Teams in blue are still on UNC's 2025-26 schedule, Gray are not in top 200, red we lost, green we won

Home Opportunities:
Quad 1: Louisville, Stanford (by 3 spots)
Quad 2: Cuse, Clem, Miami, Duke
Quad 4: SMU, Pitt, NCCU, Elon, UNCG, BostonU, UNCW, CharlestonSo

Away Opportunities:
Quad 1: ND, UVA, State (fringe),
Quad 2: Duke, VT,
Quad 3: FSU, WF, GT
Quad 4: BC, NC A&T,

Neutral:
Quad 1: Texas, UCLA,
Quad 2: Fairfield, SDSU,
Quad 3: KState, Columbia,
Quad 4: (none)

We play Texas and Louisville in the next 10 days. We have yet to log a Quad 1 win, so those games actually loom large.

Stanford & ND are early January.

Right now our best possible Quad 1 record is 6-1 if we sweep everyone (plus ACC tournament). Last season we went 7-5 with a whopping 12 Q1 games before selection day. That will no be happening again, which makes these next 4 chances pretty key.

Last season's Quad Record (with losses) before NCAA selection day:
Q1: 7-5 (UConn, ND, FSU, dook, NCSU)
Q2: 4-1 (GT)
Q3: 7-1 (UVA on senior day, ugh...)
Q4: 9-0

Updated NET Rankings:

We are still 13th. Fairfield surged 10 spots from 48 to 38- 3 spots away from turning our Q2 win to a Q1 win. Something to watch as they continue the year. It likely goes to a Q1 with them winning the rest of the way.

Although Duke and State on not on the list which I do love, we must be mindful that we have not fair good against Quad 1 teams right now. We know that NC State and Duke will be charged up when we play them; therefore, our girls will have to take care of business before we play them, starting with BC. We cannot overlook them because the last time we went to BC, they beat us there.

Heels rise 3 spots back up to #17 in the NET.

-USC picks up a Quad 1 road win over NET 12 Nebraska and only rises 2 spots from 22 to 20.

-ND drops from 16 to 18 with “just” a 35-point home win over Pitt. The Irish were picked by 44. Pitt and BC are side by side in the NET.

Blowouts and win margins are crucial to make jumps in the NET.

Up next and the remainign for the Heels:
-NET 63 Cal
-NET 36 Stanford (RVs)
-NET 18 @ ND
-NET 41 Miami
-NET 113 @FSU
-NET 116 @GT
-NET 44 Cuse
-NET 30 @State
-NET 42 Clemson
-NET 117 @WF
-NET 137 SMU
-NET 24 @ Duke
-NET 51 @ VT
-NET 233 Pitt
-NET 35 @ UVA
-NET 24 Duke

-13-3 guarantees a Top 4 ACC finish and earns a host which would be a 25-6 (14-4) overall record heading into the ACCT.
-12-4 likely means a Top 4 ACC seed and bye for the ACCT with a 13-5 conference finish and a 24-7 record. Probably would need at least 1 win the ACCT to host.

-Anything better than 13-3 would be looking and we’re really talking and having a lot of fun on this message board and in Carmichael with our young Heels.

“Blowouts and win margins are crucial to make jumps in the NET.”

Which is absurd and bad for the game (sportsmanship and not letting walkons or less experienced players get more minutes).

Your NET rating goes up more by crushing an inferior team than by barely beating a similar team.

Yeah, I totally agree. This is hurting sportsmanship and preventing walk-on and less experienced players being able to play when they are getting blown out. It all falls on the HC now. If I was a HC and my team was getting blown out and I knew there was no way would could win, I would play the other players who hardly ever play. Case in point would be last night's game against BC. I thought the BC coach should have played Lapointe more. She was an AA lacrosse player for BC who is now in graduate school at BC. She is a leader and a competitor. She only played two minutes which I thought sucked. She was a really good basketball player in high school. Her lacrosse career at BC is over. She helped BC out by coming out to play basketball as a grad student. BC has injuries now and she is a person that is helping out during practices, etc by being on the team. I did not understand why the BC coach did not play her with 8 minutes left to go in the game. The game was clearly over. The other girls on their team who got a ton of playing time was not doing much to impact the game so why not put her in and let her get more time. A 53 point lost backs up what I am saying and what JOB1937 is saying about the effects of the NET rankings. The NET rankings is also showing us that there are only four quad 1 wins for us to win in the ACC moving forward which suggest the game against Stanford is a must win game.
