I'm extremely disappointed with our portal acquisitions. The staff put way too much emphasis on adding shooters and not nearly enough on rim protection or interior defense. In the Big Ten, strong post play is essential, but every one of our current big men is more finesse-oriented than physical. The only true paint player we landed is Garcia... who, in my view, would have been my last choice among the available portal options; he’s undersized, one-dimensional, and likely won’t play significant minutes. It honestly feels like we just settled because higher-impact bigs chose other programs, probably since Hoiberg hasn’t shown he can effectively utilize an athletic 4/5 who isn’t a three-point threat.
