Pike should call Fran and ask how gets his players - to share and move without the ball

Both teams shooting over 50% from the field

Difference is Iowa 40% from 3 vs Nebby 15%

Nebraska being dared to shoot the three and they keeping missing. Wonder if Pike will play zone against Nebraska. I kinda doubt it because they’d likely bury us with threes.

We match up better against Tominaga this year. Simpson and Davis should be able to do a decent job

Nebby is better this year, but possibly overperforming a bit. They are beatable

Every game is different. If you watched them against Purdue they hit all their shots , 3’s and 2’s. They were the better team on the floor. Tonight , Iowa is passing crisply and getting it to the open man . A clinic on passing that our guards and whole team would benefit from watching . Nebraska will likely be hot again from 3 against us so our defense better be there from the get go and not go down early.

Offensive clinic tonight from Iowa
Almost every pass is to the shooters pocket and every guy doesn’t hesitate and puts up the shot immediately when open. Dix , barely used , has 5 threes.Every one on a swing pass where he was wide open. Perkins has 14 assists.

Iowa is very well practiced.
Fran knows you can’t emulate game speed so he demands perfect execution in practice…. made and missed shots are irrelevant to the Iowa coaching staff, their only concern is execution.

It helps that their starting guards are into their 4th year and 3rd year at Iowa, and the two backup guards are into their 2nd years at Iowa. Chemistry in the backcourt doesn't happen overnight.
This.

Plus Fran is to Offense what Pike is to Defense. our Defense has grown tremendously since the Princeton game. I bet Iowa’s Offense has grown the same amount.

Home court advantage also seems to be back in the BIG. Last year there were a lot of road wins throughout the league but most years home court is huge.

Iowa runs a half court offense that Rutgers fans wish they were watching. It requires recruiting players that fit the system along with a coaching staff that understands its value .

Something in the water out there.
Which O is better, the Hawkeye men's team or the Hawkeye women's team?

Zone killed Nebraska. It would be coaching malpractice if Pike doesn’t at least run some of it next week.
I'm guessing Nebraska will be practicing against a zone before they play us... You're right though, it changed the whole game

Just life in the B10. Homecourt in basketball always important, but in this conference, it's everything.

I can’t believe Iowa fans want to run Fran out of town. Granted his tournament performance has been on the weak side, but they need to realize to do much better is not realistic at Iowa. In the meantime, they should sit back and enjoy the offense.
I think most underrated coach in the country.

Iowa great passing into the post and drive and little dump off interior pass for dunks

Assist after assist after assist. So many easy buckets

25 out of 29 baskets are assisted
25 assists in a game is insane!

After Nebraska stormed back to tie the game at 50-50, Fran's assistant told him they should go to a 2-3 zone. At first, Fran poo-pooed the idea and then a minute later agreed. IMO, this turned the game around for Iowa and they won easily. Pike needs to watch the game film and realize the best way to beat this Nebraska team is to mix it up with man-to-man and a lot of zone.

Yes, it worked out for them. I’m thinking Fran would have switched back to man if Nebraska started knocking down threes, which they never did. The other benefit of Iowa’s zone is that it conserved a little energy to expend on offense and also down the stretch in general.

they still do not have a tourney worthy resume right now. They are getting better after a so so start but lets see them take this level of play on the road

Iowa only has 3 wins that count
Q2 vs 54 Nebraska, won't be a Q1 1-30
Q2 N(51-100) 76 Seton Hall, possibly a Q1 but doubtful
Q3 vs 88 Rutgers, could move to Q2
5 Q1 losses, 7 Q4 wins(Best Q4 174 Arkansas St)
Home loss to Q3 Michigan(6-10) 80-90
They have some work.

Iowa only has 3 home Q1s, but they have 1 Q2 home Ohio St and 5 Q2 road @ Minn, @ IND, @ MD, @ Penn St, and @ Michigan, they can pad the Q2 resume.

The first game of the season against Princeton was a classic demonstration of a very effective half court offense. There are so many examples of colleges running a effective half court offense which Rutgers should duplicate.
