While I like this poll, makes me feel good, despite my full throated support of the Bears, I truly think Mt Airy may be ranked too high due to the only real tough game they have faced so far was East Surry. Plus, I would like to see more games where the team demonstrates discipline for the entire game, as they did against East Wilkes.

Specifically, not making aggressive idiotic plays far away from the play that result in a flag and takes 6 points off the board. We can overcome that kind of bone headed play against most conference foes but not against playoff teams.
Talent wise they deserve the ranking but games in the playoffs are not always won by talent alone.

Waiting for the crying from BK with MA leapfrogging his Knights. How can they be ahead of Andrews who has the only big win in the conference

I agree I think Robbinsville is overrated but also think MA is too high. Andrews and ER should be 2-3

The Ratings Power Index (RPI) was made up of three components: A team's winning percentage. Average opponent's winning percentage. Average opponent's opponent's winning percentage

Looks at MaxPreps, Simmons, and Massey.
They all have Robbinsville top 6 SOS. RPI is way different than the majority. The only way your argument makes since is you believe all the others are wrong and DPI is correct. Funny.

Perhaps you should again read Mister Kidd's post, TD, as he said HE was asking for a friend.

I must have missed it or it is on another thread but I can be friends with one and all... I've pulled for the BEARS since the 1960s but seems the Mount Airy posters deserted me when I stopped the scoring of our 3 local conferences. I couldn't keep up anymore. I was a Bear fan before most of them were born. LOL

A little experiment means nothing but I was looking up how different sports calculate their strength of schedule since that seems to come up a lot.
Well I decided to use the calculation for SOS that the NCAA uses for football since high school football seems to mirror college on a lot in rules etc.
The NCAA takes the opponents winning percentage ×2 then adds the opponents opponents winning percentage then divides by 3.

2(owp)+(oowp)/3= sos
Example Mitchell using the nchsaa rpi numbers for owp & oowp
2(.7000)= 1.4 + (.56667)= 1.92667÷3= .6422
For comparison on the right of the numbers is Simmons sos rankings ( ) & MaxPreps sos rankings [ ]

#1 ER .6469_________________(1) [ 1]
#2 Mitchell .6422___________(2) [3]
#3 Mt Airy.6089____________(5) [4]
#4 Robbinsville .5222_______(3) [2]
#5 North Rown .5178_______(7) [6]
#6 North Moore.5125______(9) [9]
#7 Tarboro .5111____________(4) [7]
#8 Andrews .4542__________(8) [8]
#9 Thomasville.4476_______(6) [5]
#10 Pender .3063________(10) [10]

MA has lost one game by an extra point to a top 3 2A team in the state. That’s the only game they’ve played within 3 touchdowns. Andrews best win is against a 2 loss Mitchell team. I dislike ma as much as anyone but they are very very good

While I won't say Mitchell is a good as last year especially on defense but they did have the exact same record this time last year. But to me Andrews looked much better than last year in a game where Mitchell had serval injuries including most of the line but while this year the Mitchell QB played hurt the line wasn't and that's where Andrews beat them after according to Watauga's coach Mitchell's line pushed his around, their not the biggest except #77 he's big but they are quick on D and good blockers on O with a big RB and a good QB. I'm not crowing them SMC champs just saying they looked much improved from last year. But they do need to stay healthy they have even less wiggle room than other teams.
Now all that said I agree that Mt Airy is probably a very good team they probably had Mitchell beat last year if they hadn't self imploded if they are as good as last year and they have learned to control their emotions they'll be tuff in the playoffs.

These are not a formula.
They are an opinion poll.
Deana does a good job with these. Some team get hot from one week to another.
This Poll is better than that RPI that's for sure.
RPI is garbage
BK I like you. Bet we would be friends in the “real” world. We have similar views on several things. However I believe you are in the minority on your view of RPI. It’s not perfect but it seems to get it fairly close to right in the end and most do not have a problem with it.
Now have a good Sunday sir.

Fairly close? Robbinsville behind Hayesville because of SOS is way, Way off. The very method it used is flawed. It shows opponents wins. That isn't SOS.
It's fine at showing OWP, and oowp. It just doesn't factor in SOS.
Maxpreps, Simmons, and Massey has SOS factored in.
RPI doesn't. It awards soft schedules.

I'm fine with RPI but ppl need to stop saying it factors in SOS. The numbers are out it's doesn't do good with SOS. That's why Hayesville and MIC was ahead of everyone. Hayesville played two homeschool teams a two of the worst teams in WNC.

Max, Simmons, and Massey all have Robbinsville top five toughest schedule and MIC SOS was 62nd of 67 but RPI had them as one.
If thats good as you said then you must think Max, Simmons, and Massey are all really bad.

Robbinsville is at 5 now. It will work itself out after Andrews beats Hayesville next week.

Those weak teams that play weak schedules will drop in rbi when they start losing. If they are playing weak teams also then they also will lose causing their rpi to drop even more. Like I said it will play out. If your so called tough schedules are winning their games then your will go up. It is simple. You must be worried about Swain and Andrews this year. No automatic #1 seed from conference

I always worry about Swain.
Andrews this year also.

The rest of the SMc too.
I've seen team win that shouldn't. Hayesville beat Robbinsville in playoffs 2013, 20-17 maybe.
That's after we beat them 56-06 or something like that.
