Hot again? What a difference a year makes. We get off to a fast start and people have us reaching the final 4. Now we are playing poorly and the RU faithful are trashing our players. We’re basically where we were last year or better at this time, no?
We lost 2 solid players. One could shoot the rock but rebounded like he was 6’9”. The other was a strong force on D and played harder on D than what I am seeing today.
We have more guys who can score now but lack the muscle to play night in and night out in the big. We were shooting very well early on. Now we are shooting poorly. We can still grind out some wins but we will only go as far as our shooting in my opinion. We get hot again, we can make a run.
You’re probably right but last year he seemed to be okay with Geo taking the big shots at the end of close games. Early this year RHJ was playing at an extremely high level. So was Young and Mathis was at his best too. I want to see more RHJ as much as anyone but we need everyone to be a threat or we see teams do what MD just did. They focused on 3 guys.Hot again?
The success of this team is 100% tied to RHJ.
Whether it’s scoring, rebounding, getting out on fast break or playing great defense.
Without him we’re average at best
Some of the things being said don’t need to be said but that’s just my opinion. My point is we are slightly ahead of last year and this board was in a much better mood. The hot start this year raised expectations and now everyone is down on the team. My main point is we lack muscle and need to shoot well to win. My main point was not your takeaway.I don't think people are bashing players ( although I now don't read game threads for a reason). I think people form an opinion on a player and once they have a few instances that support whatever take they have, it's considered bashing.
There's a difference between basketball analysis and bashing. Analysis doesn't have anything to do with bashing a player, it covers stats or what others may view as things a player can improve upon.
Saying a player is a bad FT shooter or turns the ball over too much isn't bashing a player. Even the best of the best in all sports, college or Pro, sign up for being tested at the highest level of performance in the public eye. Are there fake fans and what I believe are non RU fans posing as RU fans that seemingly only show up on or after game day losses....?? Yes, but those handles are easy to point out and immediately ban from the boards as trolls.
I think if there were stronger moderators on here who track the trolls, you would see far less "bashing", which to me are likely fans of other schools, looking to cause chaos.
Better mood for a damn good reason Baby. Some of the things being said don’t need to be said but that’s just my opinion. Again you’re probably right. I mean we never lost at home until the end of the year so we did not improve there as the season went on but we did finish strong down the stretch with the solid Purdue road win. We definitely were shooting better because we had a triangle of guys hitting shots and a couple of guys slashing and running out on the break. But we also played great D and did not get out worked like we just did vs MD and a few other games this year. If we outworked MD we win that game. If we shot better that would help too.Better mood for a damn good reason Baby.
We were a better team at the end of the year than we were at the beginning
Women are a 4th seed at worstRead an article yesterday about the women's tournament. It had RU as one of the first four out. Seems inconsistent with a Net ranking of 11. I'm not one for conspiracy theories or anti-Stringer bias keeping us out of the tournament from the past but if it happens again this year I may start believing.
Whatever happened to your best players performing like your best players without all these metrics.Last year, preseason media choice was #12th in the B1G....this year's team started in the Top 25.
Last year there was no 1 "star", any of 5 players could lead the team in scoring.
This year, if RHJ isn't a national player of the year scoring 20+ a game and shooting 50% from 3, things are bad.
Last year, Geo breaks his thumb, comes back 3 weeks earlier than expected, plays through it, but is carried in parts by the rest of the team, when he didn't score 15+ each game
This year, if Geo scores 11 to 13 PPG, it's not enough to carry a team.
The difference between last year and this year is RU had Yeboah knocking down or taking 108 3 pointers and making 38.....he played around 24 minutes a game and allowed the sophs to grow into bigger roles but took enough ownership of the offense....he took 239 shots, which over 30 games isn't a ton of shots....
His replacement plugged into that role is on pace to have possibly less than half of the 239 Yeboah shot attempts and 10PPG.....and that player is averaging in B1G play, around just 4 to 5 shots a game and around 4 to 5PPG.
Was it fair to really ask Mulcahy to be a shooter/scorer and be in that Yeboah role...?? It ultimately forced Caleb back into a lineup because the team needed scoring and shot attempts and the frosh class that perhaps could have earned some minor minutes, either got hurt or aren't yet ready for an even better B1G in 2021 vs 2020.
Enjoy the ride and process, maybe we will get more productive play from Mulcahy to become a more effective player and scorer. But it looks and feels different when all 5 players can't or won't look to score and that's ultimately the difference between 2020 and 2021.
As far as how that impacts the NET ratings, RU is about the same because RHJ improved, Myles improved and we got more out of Caleb and at times Mulcahy early. Now as we approach the stretch run, we need Caleb, Mathis and Mulcahy to all step up and help RHJ, Jacob, Geo and Myles, because all 4 of those players are not guaranteed to have a perfect night.
