One for the ages! Pretty freaking remarkable, actually.

Let's frame this comeback with a little context. The event for the comeback took place in the 4x4, which is the very last event in Track. The team standings going into the event were: Georgia- 52, Stanford- 51, USC- 43. Athletes score points in Track by placing in the top 8 spots.

1st- 10 points
2nd- 8 points
3rd- 6 points
4th- 5 points
5th- 4 points
6th- 3 points
7th- 2 points
8th- 1 point

Georgia and Stanford have no dog in the fight as neither school qualified for the 4x4 Final, but they both have sizable team leads on USC. The only way for USC to win the team title is to win the 4x4, which would put them at 53 points. The exchange between the 3rd and 4th leg for USC was a little rough, and they lost some momentum. The anchor took the baton in 4th place and had a lot of ground to cover. Heading into the final turn, USC was only in 3rd and there was still a significant gap between her and the anchor leg from Purdue (she was closer to being in 5th place than being in 1st). If USC retained 3rd place in the relay, they would earn 6 points, jumping up to 49 points, but still behind Georgia and Stanford... She finally caught up to the front two runners... winning the race at the finish line, and propelling her team to the 4x4 National Title as well as the Team Track & Field National Championship.

If you don't want to watch the full relay, I would recommend beginning at around 2:30 in the race.
