A few years ago, I think I heard one of the rules of seeding was that you can’t play a team that you’ve already played in the first two rounds.

Is this correct/still the case?

Latest bracketology has us playing Gonzaga in second round so maybe that rule is no longer in place.

They try not to setup rematches.
First round they harder than 2nd.
But if it avoids setting up home court advantage for lower seeded teams or conference rematchs, they'll let it happen.

1. If possible, rematches of non-conference regular-season games should be avoided in the First Four and first round. As a secondary consideration, the committee will attempt to avoid potential rematches from non-conference regular-season games in the second round. The committee will not consider moving teams up or down its true seed line to avoid non-conference rematches.

2. If possible, after examining the previous two years’ brackets, teams will not be moved out of its natural region or geographic area an inordinate number of times.

3. If possible, rematches from the previous tournament should be avoided in the First Four and first round.

The 11pm ESPN Joe Lunardi updated bracketology has UK the 5 seed in the West and would play Virginia the 4 seed if both win in 1st round. ESPN like BracketMatrix has UK rising from the 5 seed and possibly being a 4 seed. They would have to make the Championship game of the SEC Tourney and a Upset over Bama would be huge to move them up to a 4 or 5 seed in the Tourney.
