I've been hearing a lot of debate on OT rules lately, specifically since the NFL has had back to back weeks with tie games.
On one hand, NFL "purists" think their rule is far superior to the NCAA rules because it more resembles the actual game.
The downside to this system is really two-fold.
1) Games can end on a first possession if a team scores a TD, leaving the other team without their possession
2) Games can end in a tie
The flip side is the college rule where both teams receive the ball on the 25 and extra periods keep going until there is one winner.
The downside here is that people claim that this is not a representative way to finish games - since basically teams are already in FG range when they receive the ball.
