I was cruising by Patterson Stadium today and noticed some guys on the field. Walked in and saw the Celtics and Bulls (not the NBA variety) going at it in the 2nd inning with a handful of noisy spectators. Watched an inning and left. One of the concession windows was open, the scoreboard was working, and two umpires were on the field.

As I exited, I passed a Celtic fan outside smoking, and I asked him about the teams playing. He said that it was a 16-and-under national championship series that started on Wednesday and continues thru the weekend. The Celtics are from Canton, Ohio, and the Bulls are from somewhere in Missouri. But a baseball "national championship", no less.

Anyone heard anything about this? Is this the most obscure national championship anyone's heard of? Wouldn't it at least merit 30 seconds of a local sports newscast that in July is showing food eating contests?...

Do you happen to know what baseball association they are with? There are many out there. USSSA, American Legion, USBBA, Cal Ripken.

All I can tell you is that they were playing baseball, and everything looked pretty close to college baseball speed and dimensions. In fact, these "kids" looked every bit the part of small college players. They looked like they should be playing in a national championship, pitching, batting, and fielding...

Maybe The Pat was being used as an alternate site for the Nationals in E'town. Hence the lack of local coverage. Still, it's better than food stuffing contests and E'town is a burb of the Ville. duh
